Best regards Splinterlovers 💚

It’s been over a month since I wrote a post about the new “Challenges” in campaign mode. Well, the truth is, I completely forgot to continue this series of posts, but I’ve had a guide on how to complete this challenge ready for you for a month now. Of course, this information is geared more toward new players—those who are just starting out and want to learn—since this is a great place to grasp the basics of the game. In fact, “Book 1” of this mode is essential for getting started, because it’s in the “Challenges” where you’ll apply certain strategies on the battlefield.

But so you don't get lost and know where to go, if you click HERE, you’ll be able to see and read that first post I published about “Battle Challenges” in this mode, explaining the decisions I made in that battle to defeat my opponent, and that’s exactly what I want to do this time, but with “Challenge 2,” which gives you a key tip to help you understand the effects of certain abilities and how to protect yourself from them—something you have to constantly interpret and learn if you want to stay in the game.

So, if you don't know anything about what I'm talking about, read the first post I linked above. After you do that, come back to this post and check out the second challenge. If you don't understand anything, don't worry—I'll try to make it as simple as possible for you all. So, stick around until the end, and let's get into the explanation.

How do you get started with Challenge #2, and what do you need to learn?

BATTLE CHALLENGES 2.png

Okay, the first thing you need to know is that each “Challenge” contains very important information to learn. in fact, the image above shows all the information, but if you don’t understand what you’re seeing, don’t worry—I’ll help you understand what this interface displays and how to interpret this information to prepare for battle, and of course, take all those important recommendations or “tips” that are provided in each of the “Challenges.”

So, with that in mind, what does this image or interface actually show us when we log in?

Elements of the “Battle Challenge”

  • Tip: This is the first thing you’ll come across, and you should read it, since it explains how certain key aspects of the game work—in this case, abilities. For example, the hint for this second challenge is: “What type of attack doesn’t take damage from ‘Thorns’?” It’s a pretty interesting question, since the battle you’re about to face has a lot to do with that specific type of attack you need to prioritize.

  • The Opponent’s Team: It’s essential that you familiarize yourself with the cards shown here and, of course, with all the cards in the “Foundations” set, since the challenges involve all of these cards. Additionally, for the next battle, you’ll need to devise a strategy to counter the enemy’s strategy—which is the one shown there.

  • The Rules of Battle: This is the most important thing of all—I always emphasize it—because if you know how to interpret the rules of battle, you’ll always be able to devise a combination that increases your chances of winning. plus, as I said, the “Tip” you receive plays a big role, because one of the rules is “Briar Patch,” which grants the “Thorns” ability to everyone on the field. That means you need to know what kind of attack to use so that “Thorns” doesn’t affect you.

Example of a winning lineup in “Challenge 2”

Well, in the image you can see the opponent’s lineup and, of course, mine. As you can see, their strategy is based more on defense and using melee attacks, taking advantage of the speed their Archon provides. Of course, we have a slight advantage because we know what we need to play, but that’s exactly what it’s all about—learning—because even though I can’t see their cards, I can see the rules and use them to devise almost the same strategy.

That’s why the rules are so important—because even if you can’t see exactly what your opponent will play, you have the rules and an understanding of their effects, which will give you an edge over the rest. You’ll know what kind of cards to play so they work in your favor and align with the rules, rather than working against you.

So, here's how I laid out my strategy:

  • The Defense and Bait Front: My strategy was simple: my plan was to play a card that would draw all attacks toward it using the “Taunt” ability, since it has good HP and shield, and it also has “Thorns” in case it’s attacked in melee. On the other hand, the following cards have the “Sneak” and “Opportunity” abilities, which also attack the opponent’s monsters, but beyond that, they serve as the “defense” of the combo.

  • Ranged Attack: Since it’s best to attack from a distance and avoid “Thorns,” I used magic attacks, which are the best way to damage the opponent while dodging “Thorns.” I placed my strongest cards there. My opponent tried to do almost the same thing, but he only played two ranged cards, while I played three—that’s why I had the advantage and won.

Conclusion

So, what I want you to see here is that, as long as you follow the rules of battle, you’ll be able to counter your opponent’s strategies—though, of course, this doesn’t work 100% of the time. If you do what I’ve explained in this post, you’ll be able to win all the challenges very easily; it’s just a matter of practice. That’s why the Splinterlands team includes these types of game modes to help new users learn.

If you’re new and have questions or need guides, leave a comment, and I’ll be happy to share the best ones I’ve already put together.
