Best regards Splinterlovers 💚

The topic I’ll be sharing today is very interesting, and it’s not your typical post like the ones I usually write—which are meant to educate users, whether they’re new or experienced. However, it’s essential to pay attention to this information because we’ll be discussing what’s known so far about BFP (Battle For Praetoria). And for those who don’t know, it’s about Splinterlands’ major new expansion—I’m referring to the new “Edition” that we might see either late this year or early 2027. So today, I’ll be breaking down everything we know so far about it.

That means that in this post I’ll discuss what “Battle For Praetoria” is, what its sales structure might look like, some innovations this new set will feature, and other important details that could highlight the value this new edition might bring to the game, how this might influence the DEC token and the SPS, and, of course, the new opportunities this brings—opportunities we could take advantage of even by staking before this happens and the official sale begins. Before you ask, there’s still no official date set; we’re just speculating that it could happen either late this year or early next year.

So, if you want to know what BFP has in store for us, stick around until the end of this post to get all the information you need.

What is the BFP, or Battle of Praetoria?

BFP, or Battle For Praetoria, is simply the game’s new card expansion—or main set—and will be the successor to what is currently the newest set, “Arcana Conclave.” This will, of course, cause the “Rebellion” set—which is currently the second most important set in the “Modern Format”—to be relegated to the “Wild Format,” so eventually, these cards—which are still very strong even now, nearly 2 or 3 years after their release—will likely see their prices drop because demand will still be shifting between “Arcana Conclave” and the new BFP.

That said, it’s been suggested that its economic design will focus on creating a massive influx of DEC tokens, which will ultimately help ensure that the value of SPS is rewarded as a result—a development that, in the long term, will benefit both the game’s ecosystem and, of course, its players.

What will its sales structure and business model be?

The great thing about this new card expansion is that six main expansions—and, of course, a few more that are part of the same main set—have already been sold prior to BFP. So, with this sales experience accumulated over the years, it will help ensure that this massive release—whenever it launches—is a complete success. But let’s explore the potential financial structure of this set:

  • Price pegged to USD with discounts: Something I think is great is that they’re finally moving away from parity with volatile tokens. As a result, the sale would have a base price pegged to the dollar by default. So, if, for example, a price of $5 is set, the system will calculate on the day itself how much $5 is worth in DEC or SPS tokens, respectively. Finally, there would be discounts, which could generally range around 5% for using tokens like DEC to make purchases.

  • DEC Absorption and the SPS Flywheel: Something that will happen—and always does—is that the need to acquire as many packs as possible when the sale takes place will create high demand for DEC in the market. This could cause reserves to run out, leading to the purchase of SPS tokens on the market, which would then be burned to issue DEC tokens and meet the resulting demand from everyone seeking to take advantage of the discounts.

  • DEC’s PEG Protection: The idea behind this is for DEC to return to parity, so the DAO would sell those reserves to buy DEC and restore parity. This is what is called “arbitrage,” and it would directly benefit the DAO’s holdings—which, in the long run, benefits all of us as well.

What innovations and potential game mechanics will BFP introduce?

The innovations that this new expansion will bring will truly change how the game works today, since, for the first time, we’ll see the world of Praetoria (The Plots of Land) and battles in Ranked and other formats become much more interconnected—in fact, that’s where its name comes from. With that in mind, let’s take a look at what these innovations might be, keeping in mind that, although there isn’t much information available, we’ll likely see a lot of this:

Innovations

  • Dual Attributes (Battles and Work): The new BFP cards will function in both worlds—meaning you’ll be able to use them on the battlefield as usual, but they’ll also work in the “Praetoria” realm. As a result, the two economies, which were previously somewhat separate, are now converging.

  • Synergy with Bloodlines and Land Bonuses: We’ll see that the new cards will also have a strong affinity with “Bloodlines” and the new features offered by the latest edition—which is based solely on lands—called “Visions of Verico.”

  • Burn Value: Since these are cards used on land plots, their minimum market value will be backed by the productive yield the card generates on lands and, of course, its conversion of resources into “Cinder.”

Which game modes will it work with?

  • Ranked Matches/Tournaments
  • Plots of Land

Conclusion

With this, we can see that the new BFP expansion will be one of the game's most successful releases of all time. Of course, I don't want to jump the gun, so we may need more information, but based on what we know so far, it actually looks pretty good.

Let me know in the comments what you think about BFP and what you're looking forward to.
