Best regards Splinterlovers 💚

Modifiers in the game are among the most important elements we must learn to control in order to win far more battles than we lose—and in the end, that’s what matters most. that’s why mastering exactly what these “Rules”—now called “Modifiers”—do opens the door for you to become much better players than you are right now. Or, if you’re just starting out in the game, beginning with this is really important, since it greatly shortens the path to the progress you need to make.

Over a month ago, I started a short series of posts to explain certain modifiers. I hadn’t continued it because I had other posts in mind that I’ve since published—ones about “Plots of Land,” a series consisting of about four posts, if I’m not mistaken, which you can find on my profile. But beyond that, these kinds of posts explaining how the rules work are very important for all types of players, since they dictate our decisions on the battlefield. So, the time has come to continue this series. In the last post, I talked about the modifier called “Witch Hunt”—I’ll link it here as well—but I’ll be posting much more frequently from now on, so get ready.

This time, I’ll be talking about the “Modifier” called “Power of Three,” but in future posts I might discuss several at once, because the truth is there are so many of them. However, we’ll cover them all little by little, so if you want to learn about Power of Three, stick around until the end of this post:

Impact and Analysis of "Power of Three"

Mana cost has always been a determining factor in the game’s strategies and/or combinations. In fact, proper management of these points—which determine the number of cards we can play on the field, keeping in mind that we have a maximum of 6 slots—is why effectively managing the mana cost granted to us in each battle is essential for increasing our chances of winning. However, there are “Rules” where we can use that same score to strengthen our team, and this is precisely part of what our rule—the one we’re discussing in this post—is all about.

Now that we know this, what is the actual effect of “Power of Three”?

What Is Its Effect? Detailed Explanation

  • Power of Three Effect: The way this “Modifier” or rule works (I often still call it that out of habit) is that you must take into account cards with a mana cost of 1, since cards with exactly 3 mana points start the battle with +1 additional attack power—regardless of the type of attack you use, because what matters is the mana cost of 3 points.

NOTE: If we think about it, the strategy for playing under this rule is very clear. The most common approach—and the one I imagine everyone would think of—is to flood the battlefield with 3-mana cards, and they’re not wrong. However, we’re more likely to win with other types of combinations. Remember, this game is all about thinking; what I mean is that it depends on our creativity to reach the top of the leaderboards.

Winning Strategies and Recommended Cards for “Power of Three”

This section will be very specific, as I’ll be explaining some strategies you can use, as well as recommend some good special cards with this mana cost that you can use to maximize your chances of winning. Ultimately, the idea of playing to take advantage of “Modifiers” is to align our cards with them, since this allows us to boost our cards’ power—though this isn’t the only way to play with “Modifiers,” as we can also play against them, but that’s another topic.

In the meantime, let’s dive into the strategies and recommended cards so you can get a better idea of what to do when you draw the “Rule” called “Power of Three”:

Strategies (With 3-Mana Cards)

  • Filling Your Hand with 3-Mana Cards: As I said, this is one of the classic and most logical strategies, and although it sounds simple, the reality is that it’s effective. Instead of playing many high-mana cards—which is usually limited to just the first one, since it acts as the “tank”—we can play the rest with 3-mana cards that have effects we can use offensively and, additionally, leverage that power boost to deal a lot of damage.

  • Maximizing Assassin Abilities: Maximizing assassin abilities may be our best strategy here, since the idea is to take advantage of the 3-mana-cost cards we have available depending on the situation we’re in. For example, the idea is to use the cards that provide the damage we need with abilities like (Ambush, Opportunity, Sneak, and Snipe), since this focuses on attacking different points in the opponent’s lineup.

  • Take Advantage of Cost-Effective “Summoners/Archons”: To get the most out of this modifier, the idea is to manage our resources as efficiently as possible. In this regard, if we use “Summoners” with a 3-mana cost, we’ll have a much better chance of playing the cards we need—for example, these “Assassins”—to mount a much stronger “Offensive” and finish off our opponent.

Recommended Cards:

  • Gobalano Soldier: This card has “Ambush,” an incredibly powerful ability that can give us the upper hand in battle before it even begins.

  • Broken Earth Thug: This card has “Opportunity,” so its attack targets the opponent’s unit with the lowest health.

  • Ujurak Elder: This card isn’t particularly offensive, but it can “Camouflage,” which gives it a great opportunity to attack from a distance with a magical attack.

  • Blazebeard Merc: This card has the “Incendiary” and “Charge” abilities, which unleash destructive power across the entire battlefield.

  • Taye Loreswift: A card with the “Reach” ability, which provides offensive support to the Tank from the second position.

Conclusion

With that, I hope it’s now very clear how we should play when we encounter a “Modifier” called “Power of Three.” So, use this post as a guide, along with the others I’ll be writing—starting with the one in the introduction—so you can begin implementing the right strategies for each of these rules.

What other strategies do you use with this Modifier?

It is always tricky to balance just spamming three mana cards versus actually building a smart lineup for this ruleset. Looking forward to seeing which specific cards you recommend in the next part.
