I’ve realised that one of the most important decisions I make in Splinterlands happens before my monsters even enter the battlefield. Choosing a summoner might seem like a simple part of team selection, but it can influence the entire direction of a battle.
Sometimes, I spend more time looking at individual monsters than thinking about the summoner that will bring them together. However, the more I explore different combinations, the more I appreciate how much a good summoner can contribute to a strategy.
Summoners are not just there to select a particular element. Many of them provide abilities or statistical bonuses that affect the monsters on the battlefield. These bonuses can change how my team attacks, defends itself, and responds to the opponent.
One thing I enjoy is comparing summoners that offer different advantages. Some increase attack power, others improve speed or armour, while some provide abilities that can completely change how certain monsters perform. The challenge is deciding which advantage is most useful for the battle I am about to enter.
For example, if I am building a team around magic attackers, I might consider a summoner that increases their magic damage. That could give my monsters an additional advantage without needing to replace them with stronger cards. On another occasion, I might prefer a summoner that improves speed because attacking before the opponent could be important to my strategy.
I also think about mana costs. A summoner might offer an attractive ability, but I still need to consider how much mana remains for my monsters. Spending too much on the summoner could limit the number of cards I can include or force me to make sacrifices elsewhere.
Another thing I have learned is that I should not choose a summoner simply because I like its ability. I need to consider whether the monsters available to me can actually benefit from it. A summoner that increases ranged damage may not be the best choice if most of my available attackers use magic or melee attacks.
This is where understanding my collection becomes important. Knowing which monsters work well together makes it easier to identify the summoners that can bring out their strengths. Sometimes, a combination that looks ordinary on paper can become much more effective when the right summoner is involved.
I also enjoy experimenting with summoners I do not use regularly. It is easy to become comfortable with a familiar choice, especially when it has worked well before. However, using different summoners helps me discover new combinations and understand the different ways a team can be built.
Battle rules are another important consideration. Certain rules can make a particular summoner more useful than usual, while others can reduce the value of its advantages. I have to look at the conditions of each match instead of assuming that my favourite summoner will always be the right option.
For me, choosing a summoner is about having a clear idea of what I want my team to accomplish. I want the summoner and monsters to complement one another rather than operate as separate choices. When their abilities and strengths work together, the entire lineup becomes more purposeful.
As I continue playing Splinterlands, I want to become more adventurous with my summoner choices. There are so many combinations to explore, and understanding how each summoner influences a team is another important part of improving my gameplay.
Sometimes, the difference between two lineups is not necessarily the monsters themselves. It can simply be the summoner bringing those monsters together.
