Splinterlands - The player base expands with recent boost in onboarding

Splinterlands is not just a play2earn game on the Hive blockchain, but a live ecosystem with so many things to do and so many perks to receive. You just need to be in it and pick your lane and how you want to have fun, but also earn from your engagement and involvement in it. And a good barometer for the health of this ecosystem is the onboarding numbers which lately have seen quite a boost. This is good for everyone as funds come in alongside with expanding the player base for future developments. I don't know if there is any marketing initiative explaining this, but I know that the Hive users already do their part through posting on social media about the great things happening in the Splinterlands. All things intertwine and work together for the better and I always appreciated that what happens in this ecosystem is most organic and this ensure sustainability and long term vision and support.

To view the evolution of the player base and mostly focusing on new players I have applied a specific approach: look at the accounts created on the Hive blockchain in the past year and for those check if they've broadcasted at least one Splinterlands custom action. And from those I have simply aggregated how many new players per month played Splinterlands one way or the other. This is just for new players as that I wanted to capture and track, the new blood that is coming into this realm and try to be victorious in it.

New PlayersMonthYear
136January2025

773August2025

As we can see August 2025 was a great month onboarding new Splinterlands players, so that gives excitement that things are going into the right direction. In a single month we have succeeded to have about 90% for the new players that joined this game in all the other 7 months combined and I think this says a lot. Something good must be in the making that creates hype and enthusiasm about Splinterlands. And I am quite happy about it as we stood to so many challenges in time and are still here, building and growing. And it is hard for me not to see this continue and expand outside our horizons.

These days I am looking at Splinterlands as an accomplished GameFi ecosystem, but also a SocFi ecosystem and probably more financial pioneering items. We’re not just talking about a collectible card game anymore built around NFTs. We’re talking about staking, governance, rental markets, guild competitions, tournaments and so many battle modes that rival traditional eSports games. Splinterlands is becoming an entire economy where playing well isn’t just fun, it’s rewarding and this is what I like about it. And the onboarding surge in August 2025 feels like a sign that more people are waking up to this and that the outside world is starting to notice what we’ve been building all along.

Bottom line is that onboarding of new players is vital for the sustainability of this ecosystem and seeing growing numbers just provides more trust. In addition to this Splinterlands comes with a feeling of belonging to something innovative, something built on blockchain principles of fairness, transparency and ownership and this is what I appreciated from the beginning. We all see potential and all the opportunities from here and dream about the good times that was trying to push Splintershards governance token to $1. If the tokenomics will strengthen that will result in the game becoming more appealing and I think the velocity on onboarding players will increase. That will make the entire ecosystem healthier and the precious SPS more hunted by everyone, which should push the price up with its demand.

Come join Splinterlands and fight the good fight! https://splinterlands.com?ref=sm-goldies

It's good to see that many new players in August. Let's hope they stick around!

Yeah, August was impressive and if the uptrend continues the tokenomics should only improve. But the ecosystem is quite complex and serious movements are what will move the needle.

Yes, it is complex. Hopefully the new players will appreciate the simplicity of Foundation mode and those that want more complex options can explore further.
