In this post I will be sharing with you how I made a short flare flower dress for my customer's daughter who is a little over one years old. Like i said in my post about four days ago when I shared the process of making the organza roses that was attached to this dress, the dress is for my customer's little girl. Her mother want to create something beautiful and stylish that she can wear during this festive season. So, we decided to choose this stylish gown that will look charming on her.

It is always exciting to sew kiddies dresses most especially when you are creating a stylish piece. I'm always eager to see the look on these amazing kid's body. So, I'm expecting some pictures from the mom when her little baby finally rocks the gown.

Materials Needed

  • 1 yard Mikado fabric
  • Less than half yard of skin net
  • Roses made from organza fabric
  • Fabric gum
  • Tailoring chalk
  • Matching threads
  • Zipper

Step by Step

  • The major body measurements I used in cutting the fabric is chest (19"), bodice length (7"), dress length (18").

  • So, start by folding the mikado fabric into two and mark 5.75" on the fabric by dividing chest measurement (19") by 4 which is 4 75" plus 1" seam allowance.

  • Next, mark your neckline, armhole, shoulder width and the length of the bodice. 1000343208.jpg

  • Next cut out the front and back bodice (add 1" for zipper allowance along the center on the back piece)

  • Next, cut your flare skirt piece by deducting the dress length (18") from bodice length (7") which is (11").1000343206.jpg

  • Next, join the shoulder seams together and continue by joining the side seams.1000343209.jpg

  • Next, attach the skin net to the neckline.
    1000343210.jpg

  • Then sew your zip on the centre of the back piece.

  • Now, join and attach the skirt pieces to the upper bodice.

  • Now that the dress is ready we will add the organza roses all around the skirt from the sleeves to the waistline and all around the dress. 1000343213.jpg

1000343212.jpg

  • Start by placing the roses on the dress to know the right positions that will fit perfectly.
  • Once you are satisfied with the positions you can start using gum to attach them.
    1000343215.jpg
  • Let the gum dry very well so that the roses won't start removing. 1000343214.jpg
  • Your gown is ready.

Hopefully I will get better pictures from the mom when her girl wears the gown. The beauty of the dress is not showing well because I don't have kiddies mannequin. I will definitely share the pictures with you all when she sends them to me.

Thanks for reading and see you in my next one.
