Hey lovelies ❤️
It's your favorite girl @debbie-ese 😍
Welcome to my blog 🤗
In this post I will be sharing with you how to sew a cargo shorts using chino fabrics. The shorts is for one of my customers that I have once shared with you that she lives very far from me and I do go to her house which is about 2 hours (to and fro) to pick up fabrics that she want to sew. So, she called that she is coming to my neighbourhood for an event and she want me to make a cargo short for her.
She called me about two weeks before the day but in my mind I was like 'Is it not only shorts?, I will finish it within 1½ hours". That was how I didn't start her work until the evening before the day she want to come for the event that she reminded me that she's coming the next day.
To cut the long story short, I had to carry my manual sewing machine into the house to sew the shorts over the night. The day was stressful for me already and I still had to work in the night. Well, I was able to conclude a reasonable part of the shorts before going to bed around 2am. I did the remaining finishing touches like weaving, hemming the edges and others the next day.
Materials Needed
Step by Step
First, we will begin by marking out the body measurements on the fabrics using tailoring chalk. These are the following measurements we will be using - waist - 45", hip - 53", crotch - 34", short length - 18".
If you're not confident of yourself you can create the pattern on a paper first but if you are sure of your abilities you can draft on the fabric directly.
For the cargo pocket you will cut two rectangular pieces for the left and right sides of the shorts.
While drafting the measurements on your fabric, remember to add 2" around the hip area and between 1" to 2" around the waist for ease.
Also, you will be adding ½" - 1" to all the edges for seam allowance.
Next, we will begin to cut the pieces accordingly. Cut out the front and back piece, the waistband and the cargo pockets.
So, we will continue by working on the front and back pieces, so you can sew the darts on the back piece and sew the front and back crotch seam accordingly.
When you are done with that you will join the front and back pieces together.
Next, attach your zip to the front piece.
Then you will proceed to attach the waistband and attach the cargo pockets to the two sides of the shorts.
Then using your short length of 18" hem the shorts to give it a clean and smooth final look.
Now, give all the seams a good press.
Your cargo shorts are ready.
Try it on your mannequin to check if there are any adjustments or let the customer come for a fitting and adjust any complaint if applicable.
