Hello needle fam, compliment of the season. So in the spirit of the holiday, my family decided to have a beach outing. Now this top is one thing that I didn't really plan for and even though I went for the holiday with my yarns, I still took some beach tops with me. But then, I had always wanted to crochet something colourful for beach wear.
As someone who loves darker shades, I struggle with colour combinations and am not the most creative in that department. You might be wondering why a clown top for title lol well the reason is not far fetched. The thing is, whenever I try to crochet something colourful and then I send it to my tutor @abenad for review, she will tell me to loosen whatever I had crochet with immediate effect unless I want to look like a clown lol. Usually when crocheting, @abenad always wants the colours to be monochrome or maybe two colours that might blend but there is me who loves the colour riot. I mean, colour riot can still blend right?.
For me, being colour restricted makes any craft boring. I know it's confusing because how do you love darker shades and still get fascinated with multiple colours? You know what they say about change being the only thing that is constant, well it happened to me.
As time progressed and I got older, it became obvious that to make my skin pop, I'd need to move a little from my dark shades and accessorize with colours.
Being a beach outing, I wanted to appear as colourful as the beach. I had my concerns, I had my fears and I did have my worries. I wondered what if the top didn't come out right? It took me a lot of courage to finally send a photo to @abenad for review when I was done.
I just said to myself if she asked me to loosen it, I won't. I'm going to wear it like that and whoever wants to laugh at me when we get to the beach should laugh.
But guysss!!!!! Before I even sent to @abenad, my aunties were already gushing over the top. My mommy that is hardly ever impressed with crafts was wowed! She kept asking me are you sure you made this? In Fact I lost count of the number of times my aunties kept talking about how lucky I am to be able to crochet because no matter what, when the chips are down, I can never be financially stranded since I have a handwork to get back to.
Wrapping things up, one of my aunt I had wanted to crochet a bag for as a birthday present said she doesn't want the bag anymore. Since the holiday will be ending soon and I'll be going back home with my mom and siblings, she said I should make the top instead lol.
So, this is basically a straight forward design and I got the inspo from my first ever crochet project which was a bralet. The top took me roughly 18 hours when you combine the hours used in both days. So let's dive into the procedure.
MATERIALS USED
Yarns
3.5mm hook
PROCEDURE
I started by making ten chains, afterwhich I skipped three and made six double crochet on the remaining chains leaving out the seventh chain which is also the tenth chain counting from the three chains skipped.
From the seventh chain, I made four double crochet which turned my work to the other side.
I continued with the double crochet till I got to the end and then I changed the yarn colour to another. I turned my work and started Crocheting back to the beginning with the new yarn colour.
When I got to the peak, which is the seventh chain I had earlier Crochet the double crochet in, I made another four double crochet and then continued with a double crochet till I reached the end.
(To not get confused, you can place a stitch marker on the stitch that requires the four double crochet)
I continued in that pattern till I got the desired size. For the last roll, I skipped one after each double crochet to give me the design.
After getting my two bralet cups, I picked one and made 13 chains from the outward end.
After the 13th chain, I made a double crochet in each chain till I went back to the beginning of the chain where it was attached to the bralet.
I crocheted through the edge of the bralet with a single crochet till I got to the end. At the end, I added the other bralet cup. Continuing in the single crochet, I Crocheted through the other cup, joining them together.
After the roll of a single crochet, I started with a double crochet and skipped two before crocheting another double crochet. When I got to the end, I turned my work and started with the granny square stitch, skipping one with each granny stitch.
I continued in that pattern till I got my desired length.
Eii! Wow, mummy see oo!
