Hello Needle Workers...
It's another beautiful new week and it's time to share my weekend project with this prestigious community.
Ever heard the adage that "You can never go wrong with black?" This project will prove it to you, that a black dress is must have in a closet.
Not only does a fashion designer know how to sew, but a good fashion designer should be able to know colors that will suit their clients.
When it gets so tough to decide, a black dress comes in handy.
This dress was made for a special friend named Janet for a dinner date with Joe her boyfriend.
Janet had been anticipating this date for over three weeks now and since then we began racking our brains on the best color to compliment her skin.
Janet is light skinned, slim and tall and she's a lover of short dress too.
While we were still contemplating on the color, we hadn't even figured out a style.
One problem needs to be solved first, which means looking for a style before searching for a perfect color.
I came up with lots of sketches and she didn't fancy any one of them. She began to describe how she wanted the front and the back to be the same and how she wanted a breast cup attached to the dress.
Immediately I understood her description, I just concluded that black would be perfect for it and viola we agreed to it.
The material used for this outfit is a black net, crepe fabric, invisible zipper, breast cup and thread.
It's an A-line off shoulder short dress with net, so the fabric was folded into two, using her bodice measurements, which included her bust, hip, gown length, and waist and then I did the same for the front.
Then the net was used for the upper bodice both for the front and back. She bought a yard of the black net which was used for the sleeve too.
I attached the cup to the front bodice and then used a remnant of her fabric to turn it, so it looks really neat as seen here.
The next thing I did was to attach the net to the front and back bodice, including a little button at the back to fasten the dress.
Janet loved everything about her dress, as soon as I sent pictures of the dress to herher on Friday evening.
She picked up her dress on Saturday evening and I am patiently waiting for a picture of her in this beautiful black dress.
This dress was a beauty to behold and I enjoyed working with this fabric, no stress of whatsoever, soft and easy to handle. I would say it took me approximately 3hours and some minutes to cut and sew it to completion.
Here's a different angle of the dress. What do your think about it?
