THROUGH THICK AND THIN

Having someone you can rely on for almost anything can be really satisfying and encouraging and this doesn’t just happen. It takes years of commitment, trust and love. Most of us want someone we can rely on for anything but then, we think it is for free but it’s not. To have someone like that, you have to prove that you are worthy of such support. In our world today, we see how a lot of persons struggle with being consistent in anything they want to do. Once they perceive any hardship anywhere, they always think it is best to opt out, after all, they’ve not gone far with anything.

I’m guilty when it comes to this. Most times I always feel it is better to let go of something when it gets hard but then, when I remember the fact that, gold becomes so fine only after going through a very hot furnace, I keep encouraging myself to keep going and hoping that I’d be glad I did so in the end. Luckily for me, most of the things I pushed myself extra for, I always thank God I did and for the once I gave up, I most times regretted that I did. Having people around you that care for you as much as it lies in their power, is something that you don’t find everyday. It takes time to build and it is not easy at all. Remember? Nothing good comes easy.

I’m so grateful for those amazing people in my life that kept on supporting and being by me even in those times when I’m at my worst. I know how annoying I can be sometimes but somehow, they still stick around to make sure I’m doing fine. I mean, they understand me that much, they know that I’m only going through a phase and they try to stick around waiting for that phase to be over. I remember there was a time I did something to someone really special to me, I offended him but then, because we already discussed something previously, which he promised to help me with, he still went ahead to help out even when we were not in good terms and I find that really kind and thoughtful of him.

I know I was wrong that day and I already made up my mind that I won’t be mad at him if he doesn’t help me with what he promised but to my greatness surprise, he did and in the best way ever! I mean, it was so touching and sweet to know I have someone like that by my side. Just because of that one act, I was always reminded that there are people in your life that you shouldn’t let your bad attitude chase away. And I had to start working more and more on myself. I’m still annoying, but then I know I have improved a little and I’m willing to keep getting better, just to be someone others can rely on and also someone that is worthy to be able to rely on others.

I most times believe that it is not nice to want something you know you can’t give. So, I always try to first give out what I want and only then I feel confident enough to expect something from someone. Over the years, I have come to realize that most times, even when we know we can’t do something, we still try to make others do them and that is not the right way to go. By leading the way, we not only help others but we help ourselves even more to become better people.
