We battle with so many things daily. From waking up to going back to bed. Our heads are always filled with questions on how to get something done or how to achieve a plan or even how to just give up trying. And one interesting fact is, life is no respecter of anyone and that it’s why, it doesn’t look at how beautiful, rich, poor, affluent, good, bad and popular you are, when it happens to you, it happens regardless of all these and more.
For the most of it, one thing we always battle with is the “fear of the unknown”. And do you know what breeds this fear the most in us? It is mostly due to lack of preparation. When we are not prepared for something, we tend to bother more about how the end result will be like. The fear of the unknown is one of the commonest fears we experience as humans and that is to show us our lack of preparedness to things that concerns us.
You only get to free yourself from this fear and many others when you stop shifting your tasks to later. When you know what to do, you don’t give yourself a reason not to do it, you make sure you do it and do it well. The moment you achieve that task, that fulfillment you get is more than enough to drive the fear of the unknown really far from you. Well, there are other major reasons why we might experience the fear of the unknown but from my studies and experiences, most times when I face the fear of the unknown, I have come to realize it is use to my lack of preparedness for a tasks I should do.
The moment I’m found wanting in something or by someone, this fear starts creeping in little by little increasing the negative questions in my mind. Mind you, most of these negative questions are sort of a mechanism by your mind to ward off this fear because the more you think of these negative thoughts, the better you strive to perform your best at that thing mostly. But then, if you fail to get prepared and these questions don’t creep in, you find yourself wallowing in your laziness and procrastination for a really long time.
Fear pushes you (you might only stagger or fall but even worst, when you fall down and you refuse to stand up back). It causes you to react. In science, we can regard to fear as a stimulus that requires you to produce an action. Most times, our fears of not wanting to react negatively to a fear, pushes us to do what we have to do to avoid us being fearful for no reason. And it is evident that most of these fears of the unknown that we worry so much about, are fears that we have little or no control of. And the more we nurture that fear without trying to recognize someone who is greater than all our fears, we will only find ourselves sinking deeper into it.
There is only one person who knows us in and out and that can only be the one who has made us (God). Except of course, if you believe that you do not have a creator. God is an our creator and he knows us better than anyone and even our own selves. When we feel fear, one of the easiest way to overcome it is by asking him to help us see things clearer and we should believe that he will and he will. Asking is a very powerful tool and most times we overlook its importance in our lives. As humans, we have to make asking a part of us because in one way or another, we will need something and the only way we might get it is if we ask.
After we have asked God for help, we can then proceed to telling someone who we trust about the things that bothers us. There are some times when I go through some challenges and the moment I tell God about it and proceed to telling others about it, I begin to figure out different ways of overcoming those situations that causes me to have the fear of the unknown. As long as I seek for help from both my creator and the amazing people around me, it’s only a matter of time before that fear disappears. And don’t forget, always make sure you are prepared, do your best not to be wanting in anything that you need to do.
