[Engl/Esp] Reading: The Adventure That Was Always Waiting for You

English version 🇬🇧: Hello dear colleagues from the community. I recently started a new hobby that I admit I should have started long ago because I have realized it is the most rewarding and transformative thing there is: reading for pleasure.📚

Why is reading so important, especially for a beginner?

1. Find Your Own Voice🗣: As you read, especially at the beginning, you'll explore different styles and characters. Without realizing it, you'll start to discover what you like, what moves you, and what you truly think about things. Reading helps you form your own opinions.

2. Disconnect to Reconnect: Reading is the best "off" switch in the world. In a time of screens and notifications, a book offers a peaceful refuge. It lets you disconnect from the outside noise to reconnect with yourself, your imagination, and your ability to daydream.

3. Build a Quiet Superpower: Every page you read is a small workout for your brain🧠. It improves your focus (something we all need), expands your vocabulary without you even noticing, and sharpens your mind. You'll become a better communicator, simply by... reading.

4. Travel Without Leaving Your Couch: A book can transport you to ancient Egypt, a distant galaxy, or the heart of a person completely different from you. It's the cheapest and most exciting way to travel and live a thousand lives in one.

The book I am reading is titled Papillon and I chose it because the film of the same name, inspired by this literary work, caught my attention. In my opinion, the book tells the story in a more exciting and detailed way. It presents more details and episodes, narrated with simple vocabulary for the reader.

Papillon is a novelized autobiography that recounts the incredible and brutal adventures of Henri Charrière, a man nicknamed "Papillon" (French for "butterfly") because of a butterfly tattoo🦋 on his chest. Convicted in 1931 for a murder he always claimed he didn't commit, he is sentenced to life imprisonment ⛓️and deported to the penal colony in French Guiana.

Papillon is not just a story of escapes; it is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit against oppression and injustice. It describes in detail the cruelty of the French penal system, the struggle for survival, the loyalty among prisoners, and the obsession with freedom. Finally, after multiple attempts, escapes, and recaptures over 13 years, Papillon achieves his goal: he settles in Venezuela, where he obtains citizenship and lives the rest of his life as a free man.

¿Por qué es tan importante leer, especialmente para alguien que empieza?

1. Encuentra tu propia voz🗣: Al leer, especialmente al principio, explorarás diferentes estilos y personajes. Sin darte cuenta, empezarás a descubrir qué te gusta, qué te emociona y qué piensas realmente sobre las cosas. Leer te ayuda a formar tus propias opiniones.

2. Desconecta para reconectar: La lectura es el mejor "off" del mundo. En un momento de pantallas y notificaciones, un libro te ofrece un refugio de paz. Te permite desconectar del ruido exterior para reconectar contigo mismo, con tu imaginación y tu capacidad de soñar despierto.

3. Construye un superpoder silencioso: Cada página que lees es un pequeño entrenamiento para tu cerebro🧠. Mejora tu concentración (algo que todos necesitamos), expande tu vocabulario sin que te des cuenta y agudiza tu mente. Te convertirás en un mejor comunicador, simplemente... leyendo.

4. Viajes sin moverte del sofá: Un libro puede transportarte al Egipto antiguo, a una galaxia lejana o al corazón de una persona completamente diferente a ti. Es la forma más económica y emocionante de viajar y vivir mil vidas en una.

El libro que estoy leyendo se titula Papillon y lo escogí porque me llamó la atención la película de igual nombre inspirada en esta obra literaria. A mi consideración el libro cuenta la historia de una manera más emocionante y detallada. Presenta más detalles y episodios que se narran con un vocabulario sencillo para el lector.

Finalmente, tras múltiples intentos, escapes y recapturas a lo largo de 13 años, Papillon logra su objetivo: asentarse en Venezuela, donde obtiene la ciudadanía y vive el resto de su vida en libertad.
