The idea for this show was born from my recent "hack adventures" on my personal "level", but I'm glad that we did it... We didn't have a big crowd in the show, but we did have some experienced participants in the show, which helped a lot in shaping this important discussion about safety online... I have to admit that I was counting on that, as #HHHLive participants are skilled Hivians and always ready to help!
In the show, we were talking about our experiences with hacks, malware, viruses, and other nasty things... Every single bad experience was a valuable lesson for the future, and it makes us more "scam-proof." It was interesting to hear others and their past encounters with hacks and viruses, which showed that it can happen to anyone... You can be an experienced IT user, but you can still fall into a trap of a scammer... That's why it's important to share, and to learn about new techniques that have been used nowadays... Bad actors are improving too, and those "hack" practices from the past aren't effective anymore, but some more sophisticated ones have been developed...
Let me share a few titbits about the topics and discussions that we have covered in this show... Of course, I would strongly suggest you scroll down and play the complete show recording...
At the beginning, I shared my recent events about my hosting server being hacked... How the hack happened, who got affected, and shared a few tips on how to avoid being hacked if you run your own website...
That wasn't the only example when I got hacked, and I have shared the story that happened 20 years ago, while I was using Windows as my operating system... Despite having a firewall and antivirus software, I got hacked! What was the damage? I explained in the show...
@stresskiller was the first one to share his experience with hacks... He got his website hacked in 2002, when in those days the "deface" was the most popular type of hack... A hacker would change your website's look and show a completely different page, usually with a scam link to some other place...
Somewhere around the same time (or maybe a bit later), @jza was also active in the IT world... As Windows had many security issues, with a lot of users being infected by worms, viruses, and a slow system in general, he was one of the Linux ambassadors in those days, promoting a better solution... Btw. I was one of those who changed from Windows to Linux after my personal machine got hacked!
As we were in the "good old days", @felixx reminded us about how it was done (and still is) in the past... When you have a Windows computer for more than a few months, it will be full of worms and viruses... In those days, you would pull out your "system image" CD from the drawer, and restore your original OS installation with your pre-installed software... Clean start!
@felixxx mentioned different ways how hackers work nowadays... It's more of a social engineering, besides the technical aspect of it...
@thekittygirl bounced us back to HIVE, writing in the chat about storing keys on Google Drive, or in your email messages... Those ARE NOT good practices and you should AVOID doing that!
@jza mentioned the Telegram scams (bouncer bots), which are operating in Discord too... For example, when you see those accounts offering "free support" if you send them DM, or giving away some incredibly valuable AIRDROPs, etc. Stay away from those things! If it's too good to be true, it's probably a scam! One of the very clever scams can be an offer that sounds like this: "We need beta testers and will pay you $1000/week to work for us"... I didn't pay attention to something like that, but @thekittygirl reminded us all!
Another good tip was to always DOUBLE CHECK THE ADDRESS before sending some funds (or delegations) to another account... You can misspell the username, and your money is gone! Speaking of misspelling, there are tons of scammers on the Internet using names SIMILAR to some popular influencers, trying to scam people...
The topic is interesting, and if I were there, I would raise a question related to the Recovery account, because I've been thinking about it for some time. Maybe someone asks the same thing, so I'll listen to the video 🙂

We had 9 participants (including me) in the show this week!!! Hopefully, we attract more people to the next shows... Having crypto in the sideways markets doesn't help with engagement! 😃 Thanks for participating, @felixxx, @incublus, @jza, @les90, @melinda010100, @stresskiller, @stdd, and @thekittygirl! Thank you, everyone, for joining. I hope you had fun and learned something new!
Of course, we had a usual after-show where we continued the discussion about HIVE, but also got into some other topics thanks to people who joined in that part! I didn't record that, so if you are curious to hear how it looks, come to the next show! 🙂
Thank you, guys and girls, once again! As a sign of appreciation, I will send some LEN tokens to all participants of the live show! You can pair them with LENM tokens, add liquidity to the diesel pool, and earn rewards! If you want to learn more about the project behind it, check out the @liotes account or visit the Liotes website... Of course, if you are not interested in it, you can sell tokens on the Hive-Engine market...
To encourage more people to come on the mic, I usually send additional ECENCY points for those sharing things in voice... This week, 100 POINTS goes to @felixxx, @jza, @stresskiller, and @thekittygirl, as they were sharing things and asking questions on the mic! 😃
Special thanks goes to @melinda010100 and @good-karma for providing the space for the event!
Thank you for your time.

Don't forget to follow, reblog, and browse my Hivepage to stay connected with all the great stuff!
Even though I couldn't stay long, it was a great show, man. Wallet security is extremely important for all of us. I hope everyone realizes this because once you show weakness, there's no turning back.
Indeed! I love the fact that we always have some interesting discussions and I learn something new... This time, I learned about the account recovery procedure!
I didn't watch all of it, but from the bits I did listen to, I can say there is a lot of confusion about what the recovery account can do and how it works... this leaves me with some ideas for a post. Will try to come back to this @ph1102 (or if you want me to review anything you produce, let me know). Recall me if I forget about it.
I might not be able to do it before going to HiveFest, but this is actually something I should enjoy trying to clarify.
Explaining how the Recovery account works can be a very useful tutorial for everyone! So, go for it!
Have an awesome time on HF! 🍻
I'm getting depressed with every day that I will not go this year... 😞
I can't join the show earlier but i jupm into the server before 30 minutes it ended and i enjoyed listening to you guys as the topic was interesting....
My recovery account is dbuzz and i know the dbuzz server is dead now as we can't connect to chrisrice and i was thinking of changing my recovery account....
!PIZZA
It was great to have you in the show! I hope you will come back in the future too!
And regarding the recovery account, it's not that bad idea to have someone trustworthy there...
Yes I'll change my recovery soon
Thank you for tagging me 🙂
I've been checking for days to see if you posted this recap, so I could listen to what you were talking about. I'm getting close to a goal, so it's time to tackle securing my account 🙂
Thanks for the question in the chat! It has shaped the good part of the show... At least, we clarified some important things! 🍻
Great HHHLive show.
Thanks for the video 🙂
I didn't remember at what point I wrote the question, so I listened to everything you said about hacker attacks 🙂
I personally did not have a situation (as they say, for now and I hope not) and in the company three months ago, there was a breakthrough, when hackers reached the router in one of our call centers through the SIP trunk line and misused the phone lines for calling numbers all over the world.
Cost in three hours, until Telecom did not disable calls due to Fraud, approx. 9000e.
During implementation, we combined something that left room for a breakthrough and that happened (open Internet link, without specified ports and IP address for communication...).
But I guess it will be resolved, a report has been submitted to the service for a high-tech criminal.
I see in the video, my question about the Recovery account started a nice talk 🙂
I hope that no one will need it, and I think that what @felixxx said about trust makes sense.
Only if you know someone personally, so much so that you can entrust your funds to him(and who is it really, brother, wife, friend? Mother-in-law certainly not 🙂 Sometimes I don't even believe myself🙂) one option is that he can confirm the password change for you.
Another option, to create a new account and define it as recovery? Is that something that is being done?

Well just yesterday my sister in law got bank scammed, they phoned here with the exact same number of the bank appearing on the phone, asking for a bank transfer to prevent a scam, she fell for it but later managed to smell the scam and block it... I mean now scammers can make the phone number they want appear on your phone
WOW!!! I hadn't heard about something like that, and thank you for sharing!
If the person on the other side (scammer) sounds professional and convincing, I have no idea how you can prevent (or realize) that it is a scammer...
This is going out of control... We can't trust anyone!
Yep, police said never trust anyone calling, just if it's you calling first... They can fake even police number

It was a nice show, but man that Hive recovery account seems like a confusing topic. There are just too many scams out there, and you can never be too safe.
Yeah, the recovery account procedure does sound confusing... However, compared to other blockchains, which have no possibility of recovery, it's better to have something over nothing...
Of course, the best is to keep your keys safe and avoid any of these things!
It clearly shows that regardless of your tech skills, you can still be tricked by a scam.
As it was said in the show, the social engineering around these scams and phishing is reaching some crazy professional levels... Anyone could be tricked...
Thanks for sharing this. Now a days hackers are really experts in social media, so we really need to be careful at all times.
You are welcome! If you didn't check out the recording inside the post, don't forget to do it! There is some great info, especially in the second part...
Thanks for your curation! APpreciated! 🙏
Great recap! 👍 Glad experienced Hivians shaped the safety discussion. Always a valuable topic! 🛡️

Come get MOONed!
Zypto changed it to Active Key. Haven't used it yet, but read their announcement.
Regarding account recovery, I documented the process back on the other chain. I'm hesitant to link that post, as it refers to tools from back then and to that chain, but the process is the same, only using something like PeakD, and probably Ecency. @incublus is correct. Here's how the process works, quoted from my post from back then:
Regarding step A, that is done by generating a NEW master password (at the front-end level, WITHOUT creating a new account). I think I saw PeakD can do that, but haven't looked into that in a long time.
Thank you very much for sharing a detailed explanation about account recovery! Personally, I didn't do it, but maybe I should try it... To know if someone asks for help...
Great to hear that Zypto changed it to an active key... I saw a post by @forkyishere where he shared that he had issues with linking his existing HIVE account with Zypto, as it didn't "recognize" his private key... Instead of that, he had to enter the seed phrase... I hope they will fix that too...
I mean, it's not the end of the world, but less experienced people could quit because of these "small things"...
Thanks for this... will test it and update my review.
That's how I did it. Went through the process with a test account.
Will test with the active key on Zypto and see if I can update my review.
Are you able to reference the announcement you speak about? I am in their telegram too if that was in there. (would make my life easier) thanks!
There you go: https://peakd.com/zypto/@zypto/import-hive-accounts-to-zypto-with-active-key
Note that I haven't tried Zypto yet. Only from what I read from others and their announcements.
