Every Child Deserves Safety: The Danger of Bully in Schools- LOH contest-286
A school is meant to be a very safe place for kids to learn and acquire knowledge, and not a place where parents fear the worst could happen and feel insecure/ scared leaving their kids because of other kids who are bullies.
School bullying is gradually becoming a pandemic in our society today, and it really needs to be controlled at all costs, for the sake of our future.
The consequences of bullying children can be really severe and harmful. It affects the child in several ways; it affects them mentally, emotionally and even destroys their self confidence and esteem.
Each time ,I hear a news about bullies, I keep wondering if kids aren't taught love , empathy and kindness enough at home. Bullying is a very cruel act and needs to be stopped, to avoid irreversible incidents like death.
Constant bullying could lead to death, suicidal thoughts and severe damage that will affect the victims till they become adults.
It was just yesterday, I was scrolling through Facebook and I watched a terrible video of a young college student who suffered bullying from other kids, for a long time and finally he was beaten to death by other students because he was suspected to be gay, and I watched this video in so much pain, because the society is becoming dangerous by the day.
Because he was different from other male kids and behaved like a female, that made him a target amongst other male students.
That young kid was a victim of constant bullying and hatred that eventually lead to his death.
I was speechless , because that was cruelty and nobody deserves to be bullied because they are different from others. We all are not even created to be alike. I really hope and pray he gets the justice he deserves. This wasn't just bullying, but hatred and wickedness at the highest level.
We have the responsibilities as adults, teachers, parents, counselors and in any position we find ourselves teaching and educating kids to stop bullying others. It shouldn't end in teaching them, but also being good examples to these kids.
Teach them practical empathy and kindness by accepting everyone, including those who are different, disabled and look weak with so much love , kindness and empathy.
Especially, parents and teachers, it's important to show and practice kindness to kids and they will emulate.
Also, making kids understand that there is punishment for their actions will help reduce bullies. If kids understand the correction and punishment they get for trying to bully others, I believe they won't bully themselves.
Also, it's very important to teach kids to report. Victims of bullies should speak up and other kids watching or passing by should also report the bully.
A strong report system should be built against bully, no matter how small the case might seem. If it's suspected to be an act of bullying, then it should be reported. The bully should be held accountable for their actions towards others, corrected and also punished appropriately.
Creating a system like this will encourage everyone to speak up , not just for themselves but for the sake of others.
Bully shouldn't be tolerated.
If my child were to be a victim of bully, first I would try as much as I can not to blame the child. I have grown to learn that blaming a kid will make the kid hesitate to speak up in the future.
The first step I will take is to avoid blaming my child in situations like that, it's also not their fault. I will encourag my child to always speak up.
The next step is reporting to the school authorities, calling on the parents of the kids involved to address the situation. And if I feel the situation wasn't handled the way it should be handled, like the bullies aren't held accountable, corrected or punished appropriately, my child will definitely leave such institution to an institution that controls bullies better.
I'm taking my child out of such an institution because I prioritize my child's safety, mental, emotional health, and their self confidence.
Most importantly, avoiding an irreversible and deadly situation.
I believe bullies can be stopped and controlled with the right support and awareness . It can be controlled if the victims and bystanders speak up and report immediately.
I believe it will be controlled and stopped if we teach our children to practice empathy and kindness to everyone, including those who aren't like them.
The society put more efforts in spreading love and kindness to everyone, regardless of their different looks , beliefs and personalities.
