Becoming a Mother-in-Love, Not Just a Mother-in-Law - #284

This prompt is an interesting one. I have only thought of myself as a mother, not a mother-in-law. Being a mother-in-law is definitely far from my mind. Thanks to this prompt, now I have to imagine, think and write about the kind of mother-in-law I would like to be in the future.

Being a mother-in-law is definitely a stage of life I have to look forward to someday, especially after having my sons in the future. I would really love to make the relationship between me and my future daughter-in-laws an amazing one.
I'm not just going to be a mother-in-law but also a mother-in- love.

We really can't underestimate the importance of love and respect in every form of relationship we find ourselves, and that's all I will give to my future daughter-in-law. As a girl who grew up amongst many sisters and female friends, I have realized that love, respect, kindness and understanding are all that's required for a peaceful relationship and cooperation. When I eventually become a mother-in-law, I will love to be the kind of mother-in-law that will love and respect her daughter-in-law like her own daughter, sister and friend.

Having a daughter-in-law that I will gift, build a safe place for, support and will listen to is the plan. I will make her understand that she's my daughter, an important part of the family, make her understand that she's in a safe space and her feelings are always valid. We will go to the market together, shop together, cook together, raise my cute grandkids together and show kindness to each other always, without seasons.

There was a time my mom made a statement that captured my attention years back. This was when my elder sister was pregnant and was having some complications, but due to distance, my mom couldn't make it early to the state she resides. When I was complaining about my worries, my mom said to me, I trust her mother-in-law to care for her, and the woman took care of my sister like her own, just like my mom said.

I want to be the kind of mother-in-law that will be trusted for the safety of my daughter-in-law and that's because of how I intend to love and care for my daughter-in-law in the future. The kind of mother-in-law that people will think I'm her mother. Show her the kind of love that covers flaws and corrects with kind words.

Also, I will learn to respect her boundaries and decisions, regardless of the relationship I have with my son. I have seen movies and how this lack of respect and boundaries ruin relationships with daughter-in-law and I wouldn't want that to happen to us. I will grant her privacy when necessary, respect her boundaries and decisions and that's because, at the end of the day, it's her marriage and she deserves boundaries and respect . Also, not influence her way of life and believe the way she decides to build and structure her home shouldn't be my business or concern.

Noone is perfect and that's why conflict between different individuals is almost impossible. This might be easy to write about, but this is an individual I'm yet to meet, and I hope we share the same interests in the future. I hope she will reciprocate the love and respect I have imagined and aspire to give to her in the future. To my Dear daughter -in -laws, I will be the best mother-in- love , not just a mother-in-law in the future.
