QUESTION:

You've earned the money to buy a house, and you have two options. The first is a big, beautiful house, but one whose best years are behind it. It needs a lot of repairs and remodeling, and therefore its price is low. The second option is a small house. It's not as beautiful as the previous one, but you don't have to invest time or money in repairs so its price is much higher than the previous one. What do you choose? Are you on the "repair to my liking" team or the "buy everything ready and fast" team?

ANSWER:

If I were to choose between the two options, it'd be the former. I'd rather get the big house, which needs repairs and remodeling, and is less pricey.

I have several reasons for choosing this option. One is the fact that it's big.

My parents and I live in a small house now, and it's pretty cozy... however, it's sometimes a struggle when our relatives (my aunts and cousins) come over, so with this in mind, it would be awesome to have a few extra rooms for them. This way, they'd be able to stay longer and more comfortably whenever we hang out with each other.

In addition, I also work from home, so I'd love to have my own home office, as well as a small art studio and hobby room where I could paint and keep some of my collections.

Right now, I'm staying in a small room with a loft. My office and my art/hobby-related stuff are under my bed.

Don't mind the stationary bicycle. My younger cousin is staying over this week for her review classes, so I had to fit my stationary bike in this small space to make more room for her to sleep. hahaha

This loft bed leads to my second reason! I love designing and changing things at home... and so do my parents!

Since I have a small room, I decided to design a loft bed to create more space. Then, my father's acquaintance and he worked on it.

My father and I are also partners when it comes to renovating or making changes in the house. We also work together on DIY projects for my mom. This one below is the current project I'm working on for her...

My father did the fixing, then I'm in charge of designing or painting it. There are times when I also help build things when I have more time. :) If we had more and better tools, it would be much easier to make more changes at home.

I want to have a personal touch when it comes to the place I'm going to live in. I think our house is a reflection of who we are, and it shows the things we value in life.

Even though the first option mentioned that the bigger house would cost much less than the ready-to-live one, I imagine the repairs/remodelling would also cost a lot. However, it'll be more worthwhile than buying a house as it is.

Anyway, even though the house structure or appearance matters, the most important thing is the people living in it.

We don't have a house we can call our own yet, but we're lucky that our landlord allows us to make changes in the house we're currently living in. It has become more homey and cozy to live in because of the small changes we make one at a time.

But the cherry on top is that I can live happily with my parents and our fur babies... and create memories with them, our relatives, and friends when they visit us.
