My Face has Been Misunderstood Many Times:LOH #309

Tell us about a time when someone made a wrong assumption about you, without knowing the facts. How did you deal with it? How did it make you feel?

Well, one thing I have come to know about myself is that my face and my personality don't always agree. So time ago,my manager in my place of work asked me to meet her in the office during break time, I did, and what she said got me laughing

Now,the thing is that, I don't naturally have a smiley face. Even when I'm perfectly fine, my face can look like I'm thinking about something very serious. Add the fact that I'm an introvert, and you already have a perfect ground for people to misunderstand me. The only time I get to smile on my own is when I want to pose for a picture. The more reason my manager thought that I was passing through a lot.

There have been times when I walk into a place and barely talk to anyone. Before I even get comfortable, someone has already concluded that I'm angry, proud, or simply don't like people.

I've heard things like, β€œYou look somehow,” or β€œAt first, I thought you were proud.” And I have had random people walk up to me and tell me to smile.

And honestly, it used to bother me.

Imagine being completely okay inside, only to realize that people have already created a whole personality for you just because of the expression on your face. Sometimes I would even force myself to smile or greet people more than I normally would, just so they wouldn't get the wrong impression.

But with time, I learned not to take it too personally.

I know who I am. I'm not angry because I'm quiet, and I'm definitely not proud because I don't know how to start conversations with everyone. Sometimes I just need time to warm up to people.

So these days, when someone tells me they initially thought I was proud or angry, I usually laugh about it.

My face simply has a very serious-looking default setting.

And honestly, I've stopped feeling guilty about it.

I've come to understand that, Sometimes, people make assumptions about us based on what they see and hear, but there is always a whole person behind that face that they haven't taken the time to know.

Thanks for stopping by !

You're right; people form opinions based on what they see and hear. As you say, it takes time to get to know people you can feel comfortable with. Have a lovely evening,

Funny but facts, some people's face can sometimes betray them. However, we have to overlook that first impression and look beyond the surface of what we are seeing and give the individual time to manifest.
Thank you for sharing that office experience 😊
