THINGS I DIDN’T UNDERSTAND #300

It was really dumb now that I think about it, but you can’t blame me coming from the environment I grew up in. Life has a way of making you see things the way you wish they are seen instead of how they truly are, I guess it’s just how the mind works. I come from a place and society that gather a lot of superstitious beliefs, these were beliefs I had growing up, I wasn’t taught, I just saw everyone around me believed that and so I believed as well. There are some of these beliefs that I subconsciously disagreed with, but did not have enough courage to defend because it might spell trouble and I did not even have the facts to back them up.

One of such beliefs is that being outspoken and defensively bold as a child is a sign of witchcraft. There are a lot of people in our society today who still believe this and it has caused more harm than good. They also believe that when unfortunate things happen to people concurrently it means they are witches. I used to have a friend who stayed with us, after her mum died of cancer she was accused of being a witch and spiritually stealing from my mum. I knew she was innocent but I had no proof. The people I hated the most were the sole called pastors that branded her a witch.

To date my parents refused to believe that this girl was innocent. These people also branded my sister a witch also saying the girl possessed my sister simply because my sister was very outspoken. They will find any reason to brand a person a witch and people will believe them. These people also understand the psychology of people and know how to make you confess to things you did not do or change your words to make them seem true. They made me believe cats were witches' objects and thus my family till date stays clear of them. But growing up and knowing the things I know now, I can read between the lines and not as gullible as my parents.
