SCHOOL BULLYING #286

I wrote about bullying some days back and writing about it today is taking me back to the memory lane. One issue with bullying is that people in charge do not really know what is going on, those that could have ended it are always in the dark. It is hard for kids to open up about being bullied in school especially when the parents are not really close to them. Growing up my mum only knew the things I told her, we never really had that kind of relationship that made her very close to me even though she did everything to be close, I was always far.

But seeing her relationship with my siblings, I have come to realize that having a great relationship with your kids is the first step to dealing with bullies. If a child feels safe enough to trust their parents to do the right thing, they will always come home and feel like they have someone who can really step in when things are rough. One of the things that give bullies power is selling the idea that no one can help the victim and that is one of the biggest lies that young ones easily believe if not properly guided.

I remember during my time, I never thought my parents had the time to look into what I was going through in school and thus I needed to step up for myself. I found my coping mechanism and it worked for me. My siblings however learned to trust in the love my parents have for them. When one of my brothers was being bullied in school he quickly raised an alarm and notified my mum who called the principal (her friend) and the issue was resolved. This is how issues between kids should be resolved before things get messy.
