If I were told today that I had won a scholarship to study or learn something new, I would gladly choose to study art therapy. As a psychologist, I have seen how words sometimes fail children and even adults when they try to express their deepest emotions. A lot of people have been taught to be strong and to hide their struggles; art can become a silent language of healing for them.
I already enjoy drawing and singing, and I have witnessed how creative expression can calm the mind. With formal training in art therapy, I would be able to combine psychology with creative skills to open new doors of healing. Imagine a child who cannot explain their fears and anxiety but can actually draw them on paper, or a teenager who paints their anger and frustrations instead of lashing out. This would not only help in counseling sessions but would also give young people healthier ways of coping with life and it's many challenges.
Beyond the therapy room, I would take this knowledge and extend it into various schools and communities. Art therapy workshops would create safe spaces where children can explore their emotions, develop resilience, and learn confidence through various forms of creativity, which could include singing, sketching, painting, drawing, dancing, crafting, sculpting, or molding—and each provides a unique pathway for children to express themselves through their own choice of art. In a society where mental health is still misunderstood, this approach could bridge that gap, making therapy less intimidating and more fun, relatable, and comfortable for kids, teenagers and even mothers, so to speak.
I usually compare children to little birds: innocent, fragile, peaceful, bundle of joy, mischievous. If they are given the right structures and nurtured with care and love, they will grow strong and develop great values that will help them spread their wings and soar higher than they can ever imagine. Through drawing, I can help them fly by turning blank pages into open skies where their thoughts and feelings take space. Each line they sketch and draw becomes a voice; each color they scribble and paint becomes a story. Together, they learn to transform hidden struggles into beautiful expressions of strength and hope that carries them beyond the limits of words.
Winning such a scholarship would not only improve my therapy skills; it would give me the chance to blend passion with purpose, using creativity as a tool to transform lives.
