When it comes to birthday celebrations, I'm that one person who would go all out to celebrate other people but somehow end up forgetting my own.
I'm usually the friend who stays awake until 12 a.m. just to be among the first people to wish someone a happy birthday. Yet, on the day of my own birthday, I somehow manage to sleep through the midnight celebration and wake up around 7 a.m. 😅.
Not intentionally though.
It just happens.
My birthday was a few months ago, but I've already started imagining what I'd like my next one to look like.
Nothing too extravagant.
Just something simple and meaningful.
I'd love to have a cake, not a huge one, just a single-layer 6-inch cake. Something small that I can share with one or two close friends.
Then, of course, there has to be chicken. That is non-negotiable 😂.
Maybe some small chops.
Maybe some rice.
Maybe a little alcohol... just maybe.
But the chicken and cake? Those are compulsory.
I also imagine having a small house party with a few close friends. Nothing loud or dramatic. Just people I genuinely enjoy being around.
As I've grown older, I've realized that my definition of a perfect birthday has changed. When I was younger, birthdays were about excitement, gifts, and having as many people around as possible. Now, I find myself appreciating simpler things.
Peace.
Comfort.
Good food.
And genuine happiness.
But here's the thing: that day would be entirely about what makes me happy.
If I wake up and feel like being around people, then great, we celebrate.
If I wake up and suddenly decide I want to be alone, then that's perfectly fine too.
I'll probably stick to my original birthday routine of sleeping most of the day, scrolling through messages, smiling at the birthday wishes online, and enjoying the peace that comes with knowing another year has been added to my life.
Because honestly, happiness looks different every year.
And I think that's okay.
The older I get, the less interested I am in impressing people and the more interested I am in creating moments that genuinely make me happy.
Life has taught me that celebrations don't have to be expensive or extravagant to be meaningful. Sometimes, the most beautiful moments are the quiet ones shared with the people who truly matter.
One thing is certain though.
No matter how I choose to spend the day, I will definitely be publishing a post here.
After all, it will be my 28th birthday.
And by then, I think I'll have quite a story to tell.
A story about growth.
A story about lessons.
A story about resilience.
A story about the dreams that survived despite the challenges.
And honestly, when that day finally comes, I hope I can look back and smile at how far I've come.
Because more than the cake, more than the food, and more than the celebration itself, I think that's what birthdays are truly about, pausing for a moment to appreciate the journey.
And honestly?
I can't wait to write that story.
Good food and tranquility are a precious gift to oneself on one's birthday 😊
