We live in a generation where so many things seem to be going wrong every day. Because of that, discussions about responsibility have become increasingly sensitive, especially when the conversation is centered around women.
Let's be honest, topics concerning womanhood, feminism, and responsibility often generate strong opinions. Everyone seems to have their own definition of what a responsible woman should look like. Thankfully, the question is about personal views, so here is mine.
Having grown up in an environment where some people reduced women to nothing more than cleaning and child-bearing tools, I developed a different perspective on what responsibility means.
To me, there are certain qualities that make me look at a woman and confidently say, "Yes, this is a responsible woman."
The first is independence.
Now, when I say independence, I don't mean owning multiple houses, driving the latest car, or having a huge bank account. That's not what I'm talking about.
What I mean is having the ability to stand on your own feet.
A responsible woman should be able to contribute to her own wellbeing and survive if circumstances require her to do so. Life is unpredictable, and while having support is beautiful, depending entirely on another person for your survival can become dangerous.
The second quality is the ability to build and nurture a home.
Before anyone becomes defensive 😅, let me explain.
I am not saying women should spend their entire lives cooking, cleaning, or becoming baby-making machines. Not at all.
What I mean is that women often possess a unique ability to nurture, comfort, heal, and bring people together. Whether it's within a family, a friendship, a workplace, or a community, many women naturally create environments where people feel seen and supported.
To me, responsibility includes being able to positively influence the people around you while still maintaining your own identity and wellbeing.
And finally, perhaps the most important one of all: the ability to make yourself happy.
Yes, I said it.
If you cannot find happiness within yourself, then no amount of external validation will ever be enough.
A responsible woman should understand herself, appreciate herself, and take responsibility for her own emotional wellbeing. This doesn't mean being happy every second of every day. Life doesn't work that way.
It simply means not placing the burden of your happiness entirely on other people.
Because at the end of the day, whether you are a woman or a man, one of the greatest responsibilities you have is taking care of yourself.
So for me, a responsible woman is independent, nurturing, and capable of creating happiness within herself.
Everything else is simply an addition.
