5 Songs Completely Memorised and Why (LOH 214)

I have written so much about music and my affinity here that you would think all I do when I come across topics like these posed by communities would be to recycle, right? Wrong! Why? There is always something new to talk about when it comes to the food for the soul. So, for this week with the Ladies of Hive Community on one of their prompt questions, I would like to show you a few songs I have memorised over time, why I could and what makes me like them so much, and I invite @ellieone to participate.

Healing by Fletcher

I stumbled on this song by accident when listening to new songs. Funny how we don’t know we need something until we get it. The lyrics struck me because I was going through something at that time, and I never knew how much I needed to heal until that song. One of my favourite parts of the song is:

Breaking down don’t mean I’m broken
Losing hope don’t mean I’m hopeless
Yeah, maybe all I need is time

That struck me in all the right and wrong places, and I couldn’t hold the tears in my Dears. Time is the only thing that heals, especially a heart that is wounded. Last year, I was really wounded but time is healing.

My Stress by NF

By now, y’all know me as an NF fan girl and I love him and his entire family. This song (rap) holds most of the feeling I feel inside when I am tired and just want to vent. Knowing the lyrics absolutely, which is a given since it is something I deal with in real life, gives me the satisfaction I need when I repeat them out loud. It is like being heard. My favourite part is:

It’s me in phases,
I’m not in the mood to meet another stranger
I’m not in the mood to have a conversation
And talk about a bunch of things that I don’t feel amazed with
…I don’t like the energy, I leave the situation

This song helps me release pent up stress in the best way I know how and that is by singing or in this case, rapping.

You Say by Lauren Daigle

Lauren Daigle is my favourite Gospel Artist for the fact that she doesn’t just sing about the Christian life but also creates awareness through her words of what a Christian could be experiencing behind closed doors. I stopped telling “ministers” my problems because they always have a countermeasure ready and not willing to just listen. Everyone has advice to give which is easy when you have not been in their shoes.

I go to listen to Lauren when I just want to feel His presence and that is where this song comes in:

I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I’m not enough

…You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing
You say I am strong when I think I am weak
And You say I am held when I am falling short
And when I don’t belong,

How beautiful, isn’t it? I have this song memorised. I hum it and word it when I begin to feel those pressures getting to me. We are advised to talk about our problems, I do. Just in a different way.

Corre! By Jesse y Joy

As you can already tell, this is in Spanish, and I have memorised the words as much as a Nigerian with the love of Spanish songs could anyway. This song talks about a tired heart and inasmuch as the beat and rhythm pulled me in at first, I googled the words and fell more in love. The most riveting part of the song for me was this [the english translation]

...From both of us, you were always the fastest one
Take everything you want, but go now.
But I will never give you my tears
So run as you always do and don’t look behind
You’ve done it before and honestly, I no longer care.

This I memorised because I was just moving on from a friendship that I thought was meant to be. It wasn’t not when I was disposable to her. When she treated me like garbage again (which happened to be the last time), I let her go. I learned to value myself in the long run and maybe that is why it gets hard for me to make any more friends. I end up running first especially when I see an iota of the behaviour I dealt with before. Trauma? I’m working on it.

Summer Night Open-Air Movie by The White Coast

This is more recent, and I came across it in a series I absolutely love. It is a song that brings images to my head about what I want to do in the near future, and I have it completely memorised for the fact that it is a song after my own heart:

We’re singing to the rhyme,
Bonfire keeps you warm…
There goes a shooting star
Tell wishes in your hearts…

It is so laid back and sweet. A rhyme I would return to at the end of the day. I love listening to it when I just want to relax, it helps me relax, especially my mind after I am done with my yoga class. I recommend it. Maybe it is because this one is the most recent, but it is currently my favourite of favourites.
