Before I look forward, let me look back. | 1 year on Hive. | LOH #99

It's hard to believe that it was a whole 365 days ago I joined this weird blockchain thing called Hive under the pseudonym "consciouscat". My partner, Brad, aka @new.things (a name he got from a project I enlisted him in soon after meeting him in my bid to do "1000 new things") had spent months doing just that: figuring out what this new (to us!) thing called a blockchain was and how the heck we get on it.

Once he'd poked around enough to kind of know what he was doing and felt safe enough with what he was seeing he signed me up. I still would have no idea how to create a new account if my life depended on it. Lucky he's the one whose been doing all the onboarding!

I started with a gift from him of US$55 worth of Hive and went from there. Because he was a couple of months ahead of me he was able to tell me some things I should do. Others were self explanatory, like uploading a profile picture, adding a short bio, and the obligatory "clicking around until you know how the user interface works." πŸ˜‚

I can't remember exactly how Brad sold me on the idea of learning how yet another online platform worked. It probably had something to do with "being paid to write". And since writing is something I can do easily (as she listens to the sound of her own quick taps on the keyboard) that bit was an easy sell. But "keys" and converting between different crypto currencies and... well, that all seemed super foreign to me.

I'd like to say that a year later I'm a pro, but I'm not. I'm just slightly less clueless.

There are things that I've learned in the last 12 months that I could have probably expected to have learned. Things like how to join and engage with different communities and how to write blog posts in the manner that's expected on this platform seemed like things I could pick up quite easily and reasonably.

But there are things I never expected to learn like how damn rich I am living in Australia compared to much of the world, even though my bank accounts disagree.

And there are things that have delighted me that I never expected to experience on here, like connecting with like-minded, like-hearted people in countries I've never been to. Like caring about the progress and growth of perfect strangers in countries I may never feel safe enough to visit.

These last two paragraphs may make me look like I'm some rich, naive, untravelled (not a word, but you get what I mean) woman who cares about no-one. In fact, the opposite is true. In my country, I'm far from rich, I'm well travelled, well educated, have lived a life with so many varied experiences and actually care deeply about human beings as a rule.

Yet, there's something about this platform that has allowed me to learn so much more about the world and about other people, to connect with so many more people from other parts of the world in a way that I've never been able to do in my 12+ years on other social media platforms.

I am humbled and I am grateful.

It is fair to say, as I look back on my first year on Hive, that this space and all of you on it have made me a better, wiser, kinder woman. And while the few hundred dollars I've made over the year is nice, the human experience of Hive is worth far more to me.

Now, this post is suppose to have two parts: looking back, to then look forward. So let's do the latter now based on the question of the week from the wonderful Ladies of Hive community I've so come to appreciate.

The question was this:

We are already in September and soon it will be the last quarter of the year. Do you have a specific goal you want to achieve by the end of the year? Tell us about it and what you are doing or will do to achieve it.

In short, I plan to do more of the same:

  • Write thoughtful posts
  • Be open to receiving money (upvotes) for sharing my thoughts, feelings, stories and ideas
  • Thank, celebrate and reblog posts I think are noteworthy
  • Comment genuinely and connect with other humans I feel to be clever, kind or in some way a gorgeous soul
  • Keep learning new things and see how I can keep improving on and through the blockchain
  • Oh! And be open to new magic that could happen that this 1 year old Hivean is currently clueless about

That might not be a goal, per se, but I'm more of a journey and process gal than a destination gal. Get me? πŸ˜‰

If you identify as a lady and would like to participate in this week's contest question (there's always two options, in case you don't like this one), please know the contest ends each Saturday at 11:59 PM (23:59) UTC. Go here for the contest details.

Interesting read from you 😎😎
You made me enjoyed this beautiful write up and how you came onboard to Hive by your partner. So sweet indeed. Happy anniversary to you, @consciouscat and wishing you more years to come.

These are beautiful goals to achieve here on this platform and I believe you can do that seeing you have come to learn a lot and still learning more. Enjoy 🀩

This are really achievable goals you have here.
I believe anyone who is set to achieve something gets it if they pay attention to it and be consistent with it.
Wishing you the very best in your endeavours.
How are the kids doing?(the ones you wrote about sometimes ago)
I hope it hasn't been too stressful as you thought?

0E-8 BEE

Hello lovely @goodysam! Thanks for dropping in to say hi and wish me well.

I quit the job with the (gorgeous) kids just a couple of weeks ago. There were too many things about it that were stressful with not enough of an upside: I had to reinforce values and beliefs that were not a match for my own (short-sighted things about health and wellbeing that we really should be doing better with everything we know about these things in 2022; I would watch other teachers dealing with (disciplining) kids in ways I thought were not only unnecessary but damaging to their mental health; and the amount of paperwork we were supposed to be able to do while also actively supervising the kids was totally unrealistic.

Our education system needs to change, big time, and like, yesterday already. The load on teachers is ridiculous and the way we are caring for and raising small humans is really not okay with me. All the thing I was seeing are considered "normal" but I know enough now, @goodysam, that I just can't stand by and watch it happen. It's heartbreaking. I have to change the way we raise children by teaching the parents from the outside, not by being a teacher on the inside.

Lessons learned. Mission clarified. Onward and upward.

And yes, I will miss the darling munchkins dearly. !LUV

Oh dear that's really a hard nut to crack but I know believe you can make a difference with your mindset and your genuine intentions.
Just keep being the best you can be I know one day everything is going to fall in place till then stay safe and be positive.

congratulations on your year in Hive, I am glad that this platform has allowed you to connect with people from other countries with a life very different from yours. I have no other income besides Hive and I live with my mom and my son, that gives you an idea of how important Hive is in my life πŸ₯° Hugs

Hello @consciouscat

Congrats on your Hive Birthday, that's just awesome. I am sure that we all still have stuff to learn and as blockchain tech continues to be built on, I think we're positioned well as some of the people that got onboard before the mass adoption happens.

I have had the best time meeting people from all over here too, it isn't the same as conventional social media which seems really quite shallow compared to Hive.

Here's to you and to the next year on Hive 🍰

0E-8 BEE

Thank you @emma-h πŸ™ Agreed: there is definitely much to learn and if this platform does ever get adopted by the masses we will definitely have a solid headstart πŸ˜ƒ

Time goes fast! You were one of the earliest people that I've found in Hive, Now it's been 8 months for me and 1 year for you. Good luck, my friend. I know you will keep up the new year better and better.

0E-8 BEE

Oh, HELLO @arashthr! Thanks for your kind words. I have totally fallen out touch with a few people who I wanted to keep track of! Yourself included. One of the things I want to do differently I've the coming months is get back into the swing of following and engaging with people around the place. I'll add you to that list! How has your 8 months been like? Still doing your travel posts of Iran?

0E-8 BEE

Unfortunately, I was busy with work for a while and could not devote this spring and summer to nature. But overall, HIVE was very good for me, I was able to produce good content in the field of music and games, and I also got good feedback. I got some relatively good rewards from Hive and I'm waiting to get some new music equipment for myself with Hive's price increase.

0E-8 BEE

I know this might be a bit late but HAPPY CAKE DAY!!!!
How time flies by so fast right?
I'm still grateful to have met you here on Hive even just virtually!
I know you'll be one of those that will flourish here because you already are!
Can't wait to meet you in person though and go on a run together πŸ˜„. Have to get myself running again!

0E-8 BEE

Why THANK YOU, my love!!!

I disappeared for a wee while - business ramped up and I couldn't get up with both. But planning to find a better balance again as I have missed all the wonderful humans on Hive. πŸ’—

Running! Yes, yes, yes. Well, I'm sure that at some point if/when you're planning at trip to AU or if/when I'm planning a trip to PH you'll have enough notice to start running again πŸ˜‰ !LOL

Hugs til then!!! πŸ€—πŸ€©πŸ˜Š !LUV
