This week I decided to finally try Korean skincare properly, not just randomly using one product and stopping. I’ve always heard people talk about K-beauty like it’s some magic secret. Glass skin, soft glow, all those big promises. Honestly, I was curious but also a little skeptical. I don’t easily believe hype.
Growing up, my mother kept skincare simple. Wash your face. Don’t sleep with dirt on it. Drink water. That was it. So when I saw routines with five or six steps, I almost laughed. Who has that kind of time? But this week, I told myself to try it slowly and see what happens.
I bought a gentle cleanser and a simple moisturizer from a Korean brand. Nothing too expensive. The first night, I followed the steps carefully. Cleanse, pat dry, apply lightly. It felt strange taking that much time just for my face. I even looked at myself in the mirror and laughed. But something about it felt calm.
By the third day, I started noticing small changes. Not dramatic, not like the internet shows. Just my skin feeling softer, less tired. I realized the biggest change wasn’t even my face, it was my mindset. Taking those few minutes for myself every night felt peaceful. My parents always told me self-care is not pride, it’s maintenance. If you don’t take care of yourself, nobody will do it for you properly.
I also tried styling myself in a simple Korean-inspired outfit this week. Clean lines, soft colors, nothing too loud. I’m used to dressing bold sometimes, but this felt different. It made me feel calm and neat. When I stepped out, I didn’t feel flashy. I felt organized. It’s hard to explain, but the style affected my mood.
What I learned this week is that K-beauty and fashion is not just about looking good. It’s about consistency and subtlety. It’s about paying attention to small details. And that lesson connects deeply with how I was raised. My father always said, “Small habits build a person.” I see that now even in skincare.
It’s only been a week, so I’m still learning. I’m not glowing like a celebrity. But I feel more intentional. And sometimes, that’s enough.
