You: A Thriller That Makes You Root for a Psycho

Hello everyone, how are my fellow You fans doing? How are we all feeling about that finale?
For you all who are yet to watch it, you are missing out. It's a five-season thriller series about a serial killer.

The series is about Joe Goldberg. A guy who, when he was small, had an abusive dad and one day took matters into his hands to save his mom and had his first kill at a very young age. After killing his father his mom abandons him, and it made him mentally unstable as a kid. Then his adopted father, who owned a bookstore—with a basement—equipped with a soundproof bulletproof glass box where he locked Joe occasionally for misbehaving.

Joe turns out to be this charming psychopath with a disturbing dark side. He meets Beck, whom he becomes obsessed with. He stalks her, manipulates her, and kills anyone who gets in his way.
The crazy part is how he was able to convince himself one way or the other that he wasn't totally wrong. First, his obsession was disguised as romance. And it's literally the same thing with all the women he has ever loved and ends up killing.

Then at some point, he met Love Quinn, who became the mother of his child, and also, just like him, mentally unstable. She kills his ex (who somehow survived him and tried exposing him) to protect her family, and later on, he kills Quinn when she becomes a threat to him and develops the belief that he now kills bad people.
He fakes his death and starts a new life, but with a constant that has always been there—killing.

In the last season, he became a popular person under a mask and is shielded by his powerful wife, Kate. With power and money, his attractive quirks and perfect social status, he was able to hide in plain sight. This part really reflected on how in today's society, power and good looks can allow people to get away with heinous crimes.
Penn Badgley was exceptional in his performance of bringing the character Joe to life, and he acted so well that I even formed some sort of connection or understanding with the Joe character.

The plot of the series was genius, and the entire cast did well with their performances.
I was happy to see Jenna Ortega, but my hopes of her making it to the next season got cut short.
I was also happy to see some of his victims survive and stay strong till the end.

My best part in the entire series is actually the last season. It had a very good ending, a realistic and satisfying one at that. When I was watching season 5, as I got closer to the ending, I felt like I was also one of his victims the whole time, right from the very start. Lol, I know you are wondering how.
I guess the movie script, the cinematography, and the acting made me connect so well to Joe.
I pitied him because he was abused from his childhood. I strangely started feeling like all his obsessive and manipulative behaviors were kinda cute, and when he had a son he cared for, I felt it made him more human.

But after watching this last season, it was like I was in the movie, and that blindfold around my eyes was finally removed.
And I realized Joe was mentally unstable, and even though he passed through a lot, he wasn't the first or last to pass through all he faced. It didn't give him a pass to be a misogynistic killer. It didn't make him judge and kill innocent people. The fact that he was fucked up didn't justify his victims death.
Ugh, now I am not sure feel the same way I felt before anymore when I continue with DEXTER, yh I confess to having a thing for thrillers and serial killer stories. Weird, right? Hehe.

So far, so good. I will definitely recommend this series to you and give it a rating of 8.5/10.
If you are a fan of thrillers and serial killer tropes, this is definitely a binge-worthy series you would enjoy.

I haven't actually watched this series but I've read the book it was based on and I know what a masterpiece it is. I do plan to watch it soon but five seasons doesn't seem like something I can handle currently.

Of this series I remember that I only saw the first three episodes and discontinued it because I gave priority to other series and movies. I need to pick it up again!

Yh, and now that it's finished you don't need to wait for long for the ending
