In one of my classes, my student strongly recommended I watch one of her favorite movies. She wanted to discuss it, so she assigned me this homework. hahaha
The movie she asked me to watch was a 2007 film called The Bucket List, starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman.
In the movie, Edward (Jack Nicholson) is a billionaire who worked his way up, but somehow lost the people around him due to his ambition. On the other hand, Carter (Morgan Freeman) is a mechanic who enjoys trivia a lot.
They didn't have any connection, nor anything common, until they were both assigned to the same hospital room due to their terminal illnesses.
Despite sharing a room, they didn't interact with each other that much... initially, at least. But somehow, they ended up talking from time to time, and a connection has formed, since they witness each other's daily experiences. Until one time, Carter wrote his bucket list.
He didn't show it to Edward despite the latter's nagging to show it to him. However, Edward ended up picking up the crumpled piece of paper.
After asking Carter about it, he proposed that they do it... and added a lot of crazy activities on the list. They'd both end up dying anyway, so better yet, do what they want.
Through this, they both found healing... (not related to their illness.XD), became good friends despite their differences, and found joy in the time that's left for them.
If you're interested in witnessing their journey, then feel free to watch this movie.
After watching the movie, I finally understood why my student wanted me to watch it. It was such an inspiring movie, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it.
It was fun traveling the world with them through this movie, but among the crazy activities they did, I found the scene where they raced against each other really exciting and funny.
Both Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson are fantastic actors, and seeing both of them in the same movie is such a treat.
This movie gives the viewers hope... and the passion to dream and realize it. Although, most of us would wish to have a billionaire friend to make things easily possible. haha
It was heartwarmingly sad, yet the way it ended would make you feel full. It's a story of life, passion, family, friendship, and love that goes beyond boundaries.
I'm truly grateful to my student who strongly recommended this. We discussed the movie last weekend, and we had an amazing time talking about our favorite scenes and how we felt as we went through the entirety of the film.
She also told me about the Japanese version of the movie. She mentioned that the Japanese version had some changes which may be more appealing to the Japanese audience, but said she prefers the original to this one.
I haven't watched it, but I don't think I'd do. However, if you happened to watch it, I'd love to know your opinion. :)
For me, watching the original version is enough. It was an incredible journey, and I'd love to watch it again. It made me want to make an actual bucket list since I've only ever thought of the things I wanted to do, but never wrote them down. Perhaps writing them down would make me more eager to tick or cross out each entry. haha
So yeah... that's it for this review. If you've watched the movie, please tell me what your favorite scene was in the comments. See you around and have a good one! (^^,)/
