2 Broke Girls (2011)

I have been seeing this series in passing and finally, I decided to watch it. Those times I would get a sneak peek at it, I could tell that it would be hella funny. However, time won’t let me get into it. So, I got some time off my hands and decided to see a few episodes for a start and now that I’m done with one out of six seasons, I am loving it. I just hope I don’t get bored.

2 Broke Girls is an American television sitcom about two girls from two different backgrounds who come together to achieve a common goal; start a business and they have one thing in common, they are broke.

Max Black (Kat Dennings) is the born and bred girlie’O in the hood who has everything wrong from her childhood to the way she views herself now. She is the carefree type (or so she believes) and has no problem running off her mouth and getting her hands dirty (literally) for work. She’s the type of girl you’d hate from a distance but love as you get closer.

Caroline Channing (Beth Behrs) is the typical white girl who’s daddy’s princess only daddy screwed people over with a ponzi scheme and covered her in rags. Caroline is all brains despite her “blonde bimbo” look and she’s got zest to go with her rich girl hair.

Watching Caroline and Max get together in this sitcom was like watching a frog get high on weed. It was funny as heck. It is comedy after all and yes, it is an old film: 2011 but it is good.

This season, Caroline displayed her business savvy mind while dealing with a very low esteemed Max, and Max had to deal with up and bright Caroline who seemed to have problems as real as a unicorn smoking crack. Well, her dad was in prison and she was the second most hated Channing but she is strong.

I like the characters here. Oleg (Jonathan Kite) with his sexual innuendos and very spicy walk. He reminds me of my nightmare but this time, it’s wearing sleeveless shirts. He makes me laugh a lot.

I like Han (Matthew Moy). He reminds me of Osita Iheme with no Onga seasoning or sokoto pepper in the mix. Just plain Korean guy smacked in the middle of an American setting, ramen with iodised salt. Another good one.

I like Earl (Garrett Morris) too. But most of all, I like Sophie (Jennifer Coolidge). She warns me of what I’d look like if I did Botox carrying a blonde wig (I’m talking on the characters now), and her ability to be blunt about anything is admirable.

I think Season One wasn’t a flop. There was a balance of urgency with the situations enough to make you laugh and the humours (especially the sexual ones) had me wheezing. Yes, I’m not a perfectly good girl and I like some sprinkles on my pizza once a while.

The actors were perfect for the roles and they brought the zazz to the pee of every scene (I learned that from a Barbie show - don’t ask). Currently, this series is a might 8.5/10 for me.
