US tariffs may slow down American AI development. Here is why.
Der US-Zollkrieg könnte auch negative Auswirkungen auf die amerikanische KI-Entwicklung haben. Das hat mehrere Ursachen.
Erstens geht gerade sehr viel Kapital und Zuversicht an den Börsen verloren, damit könnte einfach das notwendige Kapital für zukünftige KI-Startups und KI-Investitionen fehlen bzw. gedämpft werden.
Zweitens hat China nun auch Export-Kontrollen für Seltene Erden angekündigt, das könnte die Produktion von US-GPUs verlangsamen, vor allem wenn die USA langfristig die gesamte Produktion in die USA verlagern wollen, könnte ihnen einfach die notwendigen Ressourcen dazu fehlen.
Und Drittens hat Microsoft im Zuge des Zoll-Kriegs bereits angekündigt, Investitionen in KI-Datenzentren in den USA aufgrund der aktuellen wirtschaftlichen Aussicht herunterzufahren. Pläne für ganz große KI-Datenzentren stehen in der jetzigen wirtschaftlichen Lage auf dem Spiel.
Was sagt ihr dazu? Der Zoll-Krieg könnte noch erhebliche negative Sekundäreffekte für die USA bedeuten. China wird die KI-Entwicklung ganz bestimmt nicht verlangsamen.

The US tariff war could have a negative impact on American AI development. Here is why.
Firstly, a great deal of capital and confidence is currently being destroyed on the stock markets, which could simply mean that the necessary capital for future AI start-ups and AI investments will be lacking or dampened.
Secondly, China has now also announced export controls on rare earths, which could slow down the production of US GPUs, especially if the US wants to move all production to the US in the long term, it could simply lack the necessary resources to do so.
And thirdly, in the wake of the tariff war, Microsoft has already announced that it is scaling back investments in AI data centers in the US due to the current shaky economic outlook. Plans for very large AI data centers are at stake in the current economic situation.

Trump exactly knows how to ruin things 😏
Rare earths are an issue, and now they have located plenty of sources for them in the US. But getting mining permits is a nightmare... It may have a negative impact in the short term, the problem there is that if you fall behind now, catching up isn't easy. Then there is the bigger unknown of when China is going to invade Taiwan, all the drills they do around Taiwan are just rehearsals for the big event...
Things are more likely to get crazier in the world than better anytime soon...

Ich vermute, dass es nicht nur die Zöppe an sich, sondern die "Unberechenbarkeit" von Trump ist, die Unternehmen mit Investotionen etwas vorsichtig machen lässt. Das dürfte die langfristige Planbarkeit schmälern.

I think Trump needs to slow down on this tariff war of a thing, and listen to good advisers. You can't just be taking actions that's detrimental to yourself and still be thinking you're on the right path.
Economic matters need us to be thinking both for the present, as well as the future, not to be dancing to the gallery.
In all, I don't think China will be at the losing end because she has other parts of the world to work with.

The tariffs will make electronics more expensive. I don't see that changing though and the tariffs won't go away for a long while. I think anyone who was invested heavily into AI probably got their hardware so I don't think it will affect AI too much for a few months. But after that, I think there might be some slowdowns.

I think that it is not profitable to move electronics production to the USA. It is better to move it to India and other countries.
Rare earths are gonna be taken from Ukraine, that's not a big deal... I can't see europe becoming ai leader, so the only concurrent on that would be china

The question is how long would it take to mine for rare earth minerals in Ukraine and how expensive it would be compared to China. Also difficult to take risks if there is still an ongoing, hot war. There has to be a deal with Russia first.
The tariff war is probably coming to an end, Trump is now in danger. Besides, it could be resolved through a deal.

I think you're right, the tariff war could hurt US AI development. Less money, limited resources, and companies pulling back could slow things down. Meanwhile, China might keep moving forward with its AI plans.
