In Wien haben die U-Bahn-Züge eine Quersitz (transverse) Anordnung, während London, New York und Moskau die typische Längssitz-Anordnung aufweisen.

I was surprised that the subway in Prague has a mixed seating configuration (vertical and horizontal seats).
In Vienna, subway trains have transverse seating, while London, New York, and Moscow have the typical longitudinal seating arrangement.

In Bucharest, metro's similar to London so whichever fancy word you used for that...longitudinal?:) But personally, I prefer Prague metro. It just feels weird, being in those long rows facing each other like an interrogatory, you know?
Yeah, I know, most subways have the seats on the side like in Bucharest.

Vertical und horizontal? Weiß gerade nicht was das in dem Zusammenhang bedeutet.
Haben keine Ubahn hier. Weiß gar nicht wann ich zuletzt und wo mit gefahren bin.
In Berlin hängt es von der Spurbreite ab. Die schmalen haben Sitze Gegenüber an den Längsseiten. Sonst 4er Gruppen links und rechts.
Ist eine pragmatische Lösung, wenn die Züge breiter sind, gehen sich auch die bequemeren Quersitze besser aus.

We don't have a subway, but the trains run longitudinally.

The first trains for the Prague Metro in 1974 came from the Soviet Union and had longitudinal seating, as in Moscow. Individual Soviet trains ran after modifications until 2009.

It is quite possible that the current seating arrangement has political roots. After the overthrow of the pro-Soviet government in 1989, many things in our country were done in exactly the opposite way to how they had been done before, in order to express a break with pseudo-communism.
