Spanish Empire in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Mind-boggling.

Das Spanische Reich umfasste Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts große Teile von Süd-, Zentral- und Nordamerika. Ist unglaublich, das Reich zerfiel dann aber Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts etappenweise, was letztlich in den Unabhängigkeitskrieg von Mexico und den Erwerb der Spanischen Provinzen Louisiana und Florida durch die USA resultierte.

Man könnte auch sagen, Europa war bis in das 19. Jahrhundert global führend mit der Vorherrschaft des Britischen, Französischen und Spanischen Reichs. Innerhalb Europas prägte wiederum die Habsburger Monarchie weite Teile der Geschichte, Europa hat dann aber auch etappenweise und zum Schluss durch den WK1 und WK2 praktisch alles an Einfluss verloren, vor allem Österreich und Deutschland.

Was sagt ihr dazu? Denkt ihr, dass Europa bzw. die EU ein Comeback schaffen kann, oder denkt ihr, dass der Zug für Europa abgefahren ist? Woran liegt das?

At the end of the 18th century, the Spanish Empire encompassed large parts of South, Central, and North America. It’s hard to believe, but the empire then gradually disintegrated in the early 19th century, ultimately leading to the Mexican War of Independence and the United States’ acquisition of the Spanish provinces of Louisiana and Florida.

One could also say that Europe was a global leader well into the 19th century, with the dominance of the British, French, and Spanish empires. Within Europe, the Habsburg Monarchy shaped large parts of history, but Europe then gradually lost virtually all of its influence, especially Austria and Germany, and ultimately lost it all as a result of World War I and World War II.
