Got this fake Bitpanda SMS yesterday urging to call an unknown number.

Was sagt ihr dazu?

Fake Bitpanda Phishing SMS message

Achtung, "Bitpanda"-Betrugsversuch per SMS!

English

Yesterday, I received this strange fake text message from Bitpanda.

It said that I had logged in via a Ledger Live API in Beijing, China, and that I should call a phone number if it wasn't me.

The Ledger Live API part already seemed strange to me. That's obviously bs.

I thought the text message couldn't be real. A quick internet search for “Bitpanda SMS” and the phone number confirmed my suspicion.

News sites had already warned about these supposed text messages from Bitpanda. It's a phishing attack.

What's also strange is that the Samsung Messages app and the message details show “Bitpanda” as the sender, but not the phone number from which the SMS was sent.

I think this is also a vulnerability (spoofing attack) of the Samsung app on Android.

What do you think? Have you ever received similar fake SMS messages from crypto exchanges or banks telling you that you have logged in somewhere and should call a number immediately?

Hab gerade nachgesehen.

Ja so Zeug bekommt man immer wieder.

Tons of that even about your bank account, a quick check on number and you are good to go

It's always good to check the number before calling in such cases. Only contact your bank by their official number or your adviser directly if in doubt.

Often they send also a fake link, you can spot that too

It's becoming more common nowadays. Sometimes, it's through email, asking you to do confirm something urgent before you lose xyz.

This happens to me continuously. Before I had conversations to laugh a little about the scammer and make him waste his time but since the AI does not exist to avoid being recorded by my voice.

Definitely phishing texts, they try to scare people into calling or clicking, for me the best rule is never trust SMS alerts like that. I always go through the official site or app directly
