First AI victim: Getty Images. Meanwhile, Anthropic recorded a 80 billion net loss in the first half of 2026.

Erstes KI-Opfer: Getty Images.

Was sagt ihr dazu?

Getty Images says investor litigation helped push it to bankruptcy

First AI victim: Getty Images. Although Getty Images generates nearly a billion dollars in revenue, the photo agency has filed for bankruptcy and is seeking to go private and delist from the stock exchange.

Prior to this, a takeover by Shutterstock fell through, and costly legal battles with investors have also contributed to the situation.

The company has also accumulated over 1.5 billion in debt, which baffles me, I don’t understand how that’s possible. Image rights should actually be a very lucrative business. Or rather, they were until recently.

I suspect that demand for stock photography has declined sharply due to AI. You can now generate most editorial photos yourself in just a few seconds.

On the other hand, Getty Images has struck deals with OpenAI and other AI companies to license its image archive for AI training.

Meanwhile, it has come to light that Anthropic posted a loss of 80 (!) billion dollars in the first half of 2026, even though Anthropic is a leader in AI coding models.

What do you think about this? Who’s covering all these losses? Do you think AI will crash on the stock market?

I have never liked businesses based on copyright. I think this will be the first of many. You should be adding value, not holding value hostage.
