Last weekend we travelled to Oslo for a culinary experience like no other. Recently the Indian Street Food & Co. restaurant opened in Oslo. And we knew we had to check it out. The mastermind behind this incredible eatery is Dheeraj Singh.
Dheeraj Singh is a renowned Indian chef with a long history of creating delicious recipes, that integrate classic Indian cooking traditions with modern flavours. His expertise in gastronomic innovation from Indian street food is unrivalled and his restaurants in Sweden and India are some of the best in the business. Whether you're looking for a traditional Indian meal or something new and exciting, Dheeraj Singh is sure to have something that will tantalise your taste buds.
Dheeraj Singh is a name that has become synonymous with quality hospitality and delicious Indian food. After making a name for himself in Sweden Dheeraj has now opened Indian Street Food & Co in Oslo, Norway. This is truly a journey worth celebrating as Dheeraj has been awarded the Nordic Masters three title in a row last year, Best Creative Dish, Best Meat Dish and Best Dessert. An impressive feat indeed. But it is not only his awards that make Dheeraj's story so inspiring. His commitment to providing quality food and services is evident in everything he does. From his humble beginnings as a food truck operator to his current success as a restaurateur Dheeraj has always put his customers first. And that is why we love him.
So, we went through the online menu and decided what to eat, and booked a table in advance. The restaurant is located on the shore of Bispevika. And from the window of the restaurant, the Mother statue in front of the Munch Museum Oslo offers a beautiful view. Unfortunately, we were 30 minutes late due to garage problems at the hotel. But when we arrived we were told that our place was now occupied due to other guests. However, a very nice attendant came over and offered us another place that was perfect for our family. it was a bit secluded from children and all noise etc. The attendant came over to take our order, before we had even started to say what we had decided on! She began to give suggestions on the specialties of those dishes most popular right now. The chef's recommended tasting menu is a 3-hour experience where you get 5 starters, a main course and dessert tasting of different dishes. The way she presented this made it sound very appealing so we decided to go for it!

The experience was wonderful and It was amazing to taste such a variety of dishes. Also the service was outstanding. All in all, we had a great time at the restaurant and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Oslo.
I was so excited when I saw the first starter come out – five golgappas in a smoke-filled plate. They looked so different from the usual ones, with sweet, sour yogurt, bondi and chickpeas, and lots of spices. The combination of all these flavors made for a very interesting and tasty dish. It was a great start to the meal, and I was really happy with it.
This one was a bit more creative and funny. Who Killed My Goat was the name of the dish and it definitely made us all laugh. The plate had 5 goat ribs on it with a little pomegranate juice spread around. It was supposed to be someone killing my goat and serving it on a plate. I didn't know it could be so tasty and soft. The meat was incredibly soft and juicy with flavor bombs. It was perfectly seasoned and almost everyone wanted all 5 ribs. I have never eaten such good ribs before. Oh, and it was quick to absorb this one!
The staff's understanding of the menu items really amazed me. For each dish that was served, she had a explanation. which was both fascinating and remarkable. It was evident that she was devoted to her job and delighted in giving her guests a satisfying eating experience. This kind of customer service makes me to return to a restaurant and recommend others about it.
The Smoky shrimp was a great dish. The lid was lifted to reveal large and beautifully decorated prawns with curry leaves and chutney. They looked absolutely delicious and smelled amazing. We were definitely not disappointed when we took our first bite. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and had an incredible flavour.
No matter what your dietary preference is you will find something to love at Indian Street Food & Co. Each dish is presented as if its an experience, not just food. The flavours are bold and vibrant and the portions are small enough to leave you feeling satisfied but not stuffed. Whether you are a vegetarian, vegan or meat eater, there is something here for you.
The next course was the Vegetarian Soya chunks. They were soft, full of flavors and they just melted in our mouth. Now we have started to get really full. Even there were small pieces of everything but these starters are filling.
The next dish that came were chicken tikka pieces of appropriate size and in a taste portion. Here you notice that everything served has its own flavor and no ready-made spice pastes have been used, as most restaurants do. The chicken tikka here had its own unique flavor with mouth-watering spices. This really showed that the chef knew what they were doing and it was clear that they put a lot of effort into making each dish taste amazing.
Aloo Tikki Papdi Chaat is a dish that will absolutely tantalize your taste buds. It is a bowl of seasoned potato buns in sauce and crispy (papdi) paprika, with tamarind, green chili sauce, pomegranate and many other spices giving it a wonderful flavor profile. You will find a sweet, sour, salty and the fifth taste umami in this dish. The colors are absolutely incredible and the taste is out of this world. This dish is definitely one that you will want to try!
We now have food comas and laughing fits. We didn't know at the beginning that we would be so full from the starters. This has been an amazing meal and an even better evening. We've laughed more than we have in months and our bellies are absolutely full. Itt was an experience we'll never forget!
That should probably be enough so far, but the main course consisted of Dal Makhani, Butter Chicken, Lamb Curry, Rice and Naan Bread.
Dal Makhani special lentil stew red kidney beans and brown lentil mixture. I, who don't like brown lentils, fell in love with this together with rice, which sat perfectly.
You can see that very clearly, I, who eat a lot in different places, notice if you use ready-made sauces for curry. Here, everything has been prepared from scratch.
Butter chicken is traditionally sweet, so this is not my first choice when it comes to Indian food.
Lamb curry was amazing. The pieces of lamb were so soft and juicy, and the sauce was dark and spicy. I have never had such a wonderful taste experience. The lamb curry was truly unforgettable.
The two different flavours of naan bread and chapati bread were served. Small round naan filled with Norwegian brown cheese, Swedish Västerbotten cheese and traditional brown chapati. Staff explained that the Chef's idea behind the presentation is that we have Swedish, Norwegian and Indian tradition in the form of bread. This way, you can taste a bit of everything and get a feel for the different cultures represented. The Naan was my favourite, as it was soft and fluffy with a slight sweetness from the cheese. The chapatti was also good. Overall, it was a fun and interesting way to try some new breads!
The dessert table was a true feast for the eyes. Attender picked up a Rasmalai and a Creme Brull'e with a topping of crystal-like melted brown sugar. The rasalai was infused with the lovely scent of saffron, and its texture was soft, juicy, and fluffy like foam puff. The creme Brull'e was rich and creamy, with just the right amount of sweetness. It was truly a delight to behold - and to taste!
We were really impressed with the level of service at this restaurant. In addition to the great food, the staff themselves added to the experience. Each staff member had their own expertise and that was clearly visible. The children were super happy and we felt very well received with great service.
If you're looking for an amazing culinary experience that will leave you totally satisfied, look no further than Indian Street Food. This restaurant offers a Chef's tasting menu that is full of delicious dishes from start to finish. Not only is the food itself fantastic, but the presentation of each dish is also top-notch. This is what makes Indian Street Food so special – it's an all-around great dining experience that you won't regret paying for. The food here is always good, but this particular tasting menu makes the visit even more worthwhile. With each dish that came out, my kids were curious about how it would be served next time. We were all blown away by the creative and delicious fare on offer. If you're looking for a truly memorable dining experience, Indian Street Food is definitely the place to go.

Thank you for your detailed comment about Indian cuisine. It is no surprise that Indian food is famous all over the world it is delicious and versatile and I am glad to hear that you are a fan of Indian cuisine.
Indian food with a modern twist.
In my father's hometown on the Parian coast, the Indian heritage is felt in the curries and stews. My siblings and I carry that legacy as well. Thank you so much for the tour, @shahzad-ansari. Loved every dish 😀
Thank you so much @marlyncabrera. The good thing about Indian food is that there is such a huge variety of different dishes to choose from, all with their own unique flavors and ingredients. Whether you are in the mood for something spicy or something more mild there is definitely an Indian dish out there that will suit your taste. 😁
This has to be one of the most unique foods that I have seen in this community, I love it, they look so cute.
By the way, this too has a jaw-dropping appearance, my jaw dropped when I saw it, I am sure it is very delicious.
That's right, the first dish is the starter and it's India's world famous street food called panipuri. But the way Indian Street Food & Co serves it is completely different. 🤤

I enjoy the food even just through the pictures. Thanks for sharing with us.
Thank you very much @anggreklestari, It was such an awesome experience and first time my focus was not on the pictures and that's why I am not satisfied with the pictures. 😐
wow, such a nice experience, I love "who kill my goat" and "lamb curry", really the food is definitely very delicious. all countries have their special food and india is one of the countries that produces good food (even if you eat it in another country) hehehe.
Indeed, both the name and the presentation were strangeand funny. As far as Indian food is concerned, 99% of Indian restaurants in Sweden are run by Bangladeshis and this makes it a bit difficult to find an authentic Indian restaurant. 🫣
I think the Indians who run it, turns out to be Bangladeshis😅

What an awesome meal! A pity Oslo is so far away. Next time you go, suggest they open a branch in Stockholm too!
