Mango Leaves - Value addition of simple natural products in the market

Have you ever wondered how much the cost of a cow dung is, and what the cost of a coconut shell would be that you throw after scraping the coconut from the inside? But today I was surprised to learn that some dry leaves that fall from the trees have great value in the markets. One of the biggest reasons why there is a good demand and supply difference is that one item is easily available in one place and not available in another place. Today, we have a good export and import facility, and we can bring anything from anywhere in the world.

I recently learnt that there is a demand for dried leaves worldwide. I was wondering why people would be keen on buying dried leaves. It is just a waste, and for some people, it is only a nuisance. When we park our car in the sunshade, it will be fully covered with leaves, and it will be annoying to clean it off and take the car out.

Fish tanks love these dry leaves

Apparently the biggest usecase of these tropical tree leaves is in the fish tank. Leaves of Mango tree, jackfruit tree, Badam tree etc are used as a PH regulator for the fish tank water. Some of the tropical fishes are doing very good when this method is followed to maintain the PH level in the water.

In some of the local videos, I have seen people who are having fish tanks use Badam leaves or Mango leaves to maintain the PH level in the water, making it suitable for the fishes. Looks like the same thing is followed across the world. I came to know that some dry Mango leaves are packed and exported to countries across the world, and some people buy them for like 5$ per pack and use it for their fish tank.

My mother will be amazed to hear this because she is the one who is cursing the mango tree near my house. The reason is that the leaves keep falling, and it is very hard to sweep the leaves and clean the place. Any product that is cheap in one place is valued very high in another place. Weather conditions and availability play a very important role in all these things.

Medicinal value

Mango leaves are also considered to have a lot of medicinal value. In some traditional medicine, mango leaves are used to treat some problems in the body. There is a wide range of things that mango leaves help with. People consume that as a tea or in the empty stomach to have better results. That is again another value addition for the mango leaves.

In this past of the world, if not for technology and civilization, our people attributed a lot of value to the leaf since they believe such leave are rich and can be used in medicine. A typical African man will tell you that he prefers herbs more than malaria medicine than using medical prescribed medicines. I haven't used mango leave before, but I have seen people using the branch for herb concoction.
