Everyone Has A Plan Until...

avatar

dgte.png

It's a quote from Mike Tyson (apparently)....

"Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face..."

Or something along those lines lol

Meaning, we all have the best intentions when we're getting started!

We have goals, dreams and aspirations....Until life happens!

This may not be the most politically correct way of framing this, but I cringe when I hear excuses in entrepreneurship.

"I don't have enough money to invest in myself..."

"I don't have the skills needed..."

"Success isn't for me because...."

Here's the truth, life happens. And things are going to suck when you are trying to build a business for yourself. There are no guarantees here and it's really hard for someone who is used to punching a clock to make the switch to 'entrepreneur mindset'!

I've always said for years, that entrepreneurs bust their butts and work 50-60 hours a week...For the OPPORTUNITY to earn a living. Not a guarantee.

Try explaining that to someone who is used to a 9 to 5 and they make claim they're ready, but then you get punched in the face.

I want to share with you my personal story that I'm going through right now, and it's not a pity party, it's actually something I didn't even notice until today in the CTP Discord.

As you guys know, I've been moving homes for the past month and a bit. Things didn't go as smooth as we thought, so I ended up having to power down some Hive in order to pay for some unexpected costs of brand new home ownership.

Woe is me? Heck no!!! I'm so damn grateful that I have busted my butt on the blockchain over the past few years to be able to actually have access to the funds I needed. Blessed and beyond thankful for this amazing community. Sure, I hate powering down. But alas, life happens.

But then you get punched in the face LOL

I figured everything would be fine after these unexpected costs were taken care of, only to find my brand new basement...Flooded LOL

You can't make this stuff up!

We woke up to about an inch of water in our basement, and it's been a constant for the past 4-5 days. We're getting it taken care of, but alas...Some unexpected costs first and then a flooded basement.

So I shared in the CTP Discord that this happened and the community sent me their well wishes.

Then it happened...

I wrote:

"Meh, it could always be worse!"

And then @lisamgentile1961 replied:

"You have a fabulous attitude. Pretty amazing."

Huh....lol That took me by surprise because to me...Things can ALWAYS be worse. Some folks are going to bed tonight with nothing to eat. Others are trying to find that last few hundred bucks for their mortgage or rent or else they will be on the streets. And I'm going to sit around and complain about some water in my basement?

Hell no lol

Sure, it sucks...But that's life!

If it wasn't an adventure, life would be pretty boring after all?

I'm not saying we shouldn't prepare for the worst and / or plan for unexpected costs in life, however we should always remember that things aren't guaranteed tomorrow. And if you are an entrepreneur, get ready for some punches in the face, a few low blows and a heck of a lot of jabs....

But to be honest....I wouldn't want it any other way lol As weird as that may sound...Because when you do win...It makes it that much sweeter :)

Sorry to hear about your basement, @jongolson. I know that could have been worse, but some people are just not sympathetic with others problems. Of course, I'm not trying to judging the people who made those comments, at all. I don't know much about how things work like that in Canada, just what you see on reality shows. What I'm trying to say is: didn't these homes come with a warranty from the previous owner or the realtor that everything is working fine? I hope you can fix that pretty soon! And also that you can get back some of those costs somehow. It seems unfair to me, because a new home is not peanuts. !PIZZA !PGM !CTP !HBIT

Hey Jon.

A bunch of us have been following you for - YEARS - way before blockchain, crypto or HIVE was ever in our consciousness.

If there is anyone who leads by example through their adversities has been YOU!!

I find myself falling into the WOH IS ME moments and quickly realize like you said, dawg there are too many others going through so much worse.

I appreciate your journey brother, because it adds an extra kick up my arse.

Good luck with the repairs.

Sadly, few things go "as expected," perhaps because the whole notion that we can control our environment is a bit dodgy. Life will always do what it does. It's up to us what we do with it.

Congrats on the new place, though! The way I see it, the fact that we even have Hive as a last resort "oh shit fund" makes us more fortunate than most out there.

Really like your mindset, Jon. 👍🏻
I am quite the same when it comes to dealing with „life“ (just happens, don’t bother too much) but for me it often feels hard since I like to have things „under control“ and plans executed. As A-Team Boss Hannibal always put it: „I love it if a plan works out.“ Well that’s my challenge…

All the best to get this basement fixed again with not too much cost. 🤞🏻

Interesting take on changes and occurrences that happen in life.

I have always felt that people who always have excuses, do not really want to put in the work and would rather have people feel sorry for them.

Everyone has crap going on in their life, it is how you choose to handle the problems that will show the amount of character you have.

And an inch of water is only galoshes deep. Just be careful turning on your computer, lol

I think that excuses are a real problem when it comes to achieving any goal in life, but especially when it comes to goals of wealth and financial well-being. In that sense, I also cringe when I hear excuses in the entrepreneurship.

I think most people have a real problem establishing and maintaining the right mindset to succeed at whatever they set out to do. And we can verify it through the fact that those few who manage to overcome their own mental obstacles and develop an adequate mentality, manage to obtain success without a doubt.

For the rest, what a strong what you told about the extra expenses you recientely have had to face, and especially, regarding the basement. As you say, in life there are always unforeseen events, but it is best to be optimistic.

In fact, what I like the most, of everything you said, is that you are being optimistic about it, because it is the position that I always try to maintain in the face of life's problems. Because it is useless to complain, when the only choice we have is to face and solve the situations, no matter how difficult they are; and when others (as you rightly said) are having a worse time.

Well, I really enjoyed reading your post. Thanks for sharing. Greetings.

Life happens every day! Some people just give it more or less importance. I love people who hit a bump right in the morning and then joke about it all day long. Sincerely and funny. But for some people it can be a huge problem for an entire week...) 😝 !LOLZ

There's always something unexpected happening, nothing is guaranteed really. Most of my worst days happen because of unexpected things happening! But hey, I can't complain, I dare not. We just have to keep at it and keep moving. That's how growth happens...

I never experienced something like this, flooding of any kind, outside or indoors, I can only imagine the feeling when you discover something like this happened to you.

About punches, recently I got a BIG punch in the face from Do Kwon. That should say enough on its own, no more details are needed. 😶 The punch you received can be sorted out a lot easier but mine it'll take some time to heal.

Life doesn't always go your way so you can only adapt. Could things be worst? It could but there is no point in worrying about it. Just hope things go well and adapt when things don't.

When things don't go according to plan I always think that it happens for a reason so that I can learn from it and improve. One day we will look back at it and be proud of how we handled it and how it made us stronger... Water in the house is really shitty. I speak from experience. I had 20 cm of water in my cellar and it was not clean water... I sometimes still remember the smell...

This year has been a series of face punches for me, but more on the emotional level. Now I am recalibrating my life in a new state without most of the supports I had for the past 30 years in North Carolina. But I am finding there are people in IL who are good and kind and there is a way to survive. There is always a path forward unless you decide to just curl up and die. !HBIT

I am still functioning simply because God blessed me with a fabulous family and amazing friends, despite all my daily shortcomings. I still would like to know the purpose behind all the punches, but I am learning to be at peace that HE knows and will let me know what I need to know when I need to know it. !CTP

Are you sure that's a basement and not a well? 😁

I'm sorry to hear you have run into these new "opportunities" (not problems). If nothing else, it's a growing experience. Don't let these circumstances (or the enemy) steal your joy. Your expressions of gratitude and positive attitude while struggling through your "sufferings" is wonderful example for others. Keep the Son in your eyes.

Well...Fun story, the well is actually in the basement. It's an older home that built the home directly on top of the well so it won't freeze lol

I got punched in the face. Got reality hooked into the head. Realized some things were not meant for me. Then I got up and moved on to different things. Sometimes punch in the face is good and sometimes you have to move ahead ignoring all the other things. That's what life is all about.

Hope for the best and prepare for the worst. I do have to remind myself of what I have and not dwell on what I can't change. I guess we are all kind of jumping out of planes without parachutes around here. And yes, if everything always went smoothly it would be boring.
However in the words of Tevye, The Fiddler on the Roof, talking to God, I know we are the chosen people but once in awhile couldn't you choose someone else? Not a direct quote but close enough.

"Because when you do win...It makes it that much sweeter :)" Thiis speaks to me. When I watch movies where the hero/heroine just keeps getting up again and again (Boromir in LOTR, Lagertha in Vikings, Stallone in everything) I cheer for them--because I want to be like that.

Glad we have a place to come and engage which I have come to realize I need to do more often as it has been a volatile last couple of years. Looking to make a come back in engagement so may be looking for some tips in the coming weeks!
