It’s surprising how time goes by when we are not paying attention.
For this very device of yours right now, did you read its manual? Let's talk about how we did or didn't read the manuals for gadgets we own and how useful we have or have found them.
How did I move from reading manuals nonstop as a teenager to not giving a hoot about them? Is this a result of age or experience?
I remember reading the manuals of new appliances at home, you’d see me read them like I was about to go sit for an exam.
I read them not out of necessity, but out of curiosity. I wanted to know more about the gadget in front of me, I was so curious about how all the parts of the gadgets were coupled. In my little head, I was not just reading a manual I was cracking a code😂😂 AKA tech sis😂
Going through the instructions in the manual gave me an edge over every other person at home as I could set up or fix anything without trying too hard.
Back then, there was a certain pride that came with figuring things out by ourselves and reading manuals did the magic for me.
Fast forward to today, this young lady does not worry her pretty head over reading manuals. With Google, YouTube, and all kinds of quick and easy search engines, learning how your gadgets work has become easier and faster.
Half the time, I already know everything about a gadget before I buy it and that is all thanks to reviews, tutorials, and tech influencers online who make it easy for us to learn about our gadgets.
I think a lot of people do not read manuals anymore and I am part of these people and sometimes it does come with some consequences. Just like the one I experienced a few months ago.
I got a new tripod a few months ago, it was different from the old one I had. The remote control has like 7 buttons unlike my previous tripod remote control which had just one button. While struggling with the side button I ended up spoiling the remote control. Ladies and gentlemen I am currently using tape to hold the remote together.
This damage would have been avoided if I had taken the time to go through the manual properly. After the damage was done and I was sad, I checked the manual and everything was there. Am I proud of myself? No, Do I feel bad? Yes, will I start reading manuals? I’ll try😂😂
The moral lesson of my story is to encourage Y’all and myself to always read manuals. READ MANUALS!
It’s no news that we are all busy, we want quick answers. Delayed answers after reading a book of 30 pages of tiny letters containing 5 different languages just don’t cut it.
Times have changed. Manuals used to be the best source of information for understanding whatever gadgets or appliances we buy, but now we lean on the internet and other people’s experiences.
Sometimes I think back and miss how fun and satisfying it was to figure things out myself, one page at a time.
Today, the world is getting lazier and a lot of people don’t care to know how things work but I guess that’s a topic for another day.
What about you? Do you read manuals or you’d rather depend on the internet or people's experiences? I’d love to read your thoughts in the comment section.

Really I think I rarely read manuals, ah is it not this think , press one button and see what happens..but then its a necessity to read manuals not just pressing any button assuming to know what it does...
Moral lesson:
Always try your best to read manuals, it will save you alot.
I can relate to your childhood experience dear 😆
I'm exactly the same! I always read the manuals, but after you've read a few hundred in your life, you don't bother doing it any more... 😂
Hehehe I get it!😂😂
At this point what can we do?
