The World Cup without Romania and the thoughts of a Romanian who doesn't follow football.

I'm not the type who lives for sports, and i can't say that i really follow football. But when i found out that Romania didn't qualify for the 2026 World Cup either, i still felt a strange pang. Not because i was a dedicated fan, but because, somewhere inside me, there was a simple desire to see my country represented at least once on the big stage, where the whole planet is watching.

Romania was eliminated in the preliminaries by teams that, honestly, don't seem impossible to overcome. But that's the reality: we didn't get the place, we didn't get there, we won't be part of the world tournament. And even though I don't follow sports, i still feel like i would have liked to experience at least once that moment when you see the tricolor on a global screen, when you feel that your country exists in a positive, visible, important context.

It's not about football for me. It's about representation. I don't follow tactics, statistics or who plays where, but the idea of seeing the tricolor on the world stage, even for a few matches, would have meant something. Even though i'm not a sports fan, i can perfectly understand the pride of seeing your country present in a huge event.

And yet, even if Romania doesn't go to the World Cup, something interesting is happening on SportsBlock: a competition dedicated to the 2026 World Cup. There, every user — including me, a Romanian who doesn't follow football — can participate, predict, comment and experience the tournament in their own way. Maybe my country isn't on the field, but i can be present in discussions, in reactions, in the general atmosphere.

Maybe next time Romania will succeed. Until then, all that remains is to experience the World Cup through the eyes of the world and through the competition on SportsBlock, which at least gives me the opportunity to be part of something, even if only as an observer.
