Fasting is the act of abstaining from food for a period of time while using that time to communicate with your Creator through prayers and meditation. On the other hand, intermittent fasting comes with several health benefits and is often recommended by doctors. Everyone fasts at some point in life, and some individuals have specific times set aside for fasting, each with their own reasons. Beyond spiritual growth, fasting also offers numerous health advantages.
Some people fast from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., others from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., while some engage in what is known as dry fasting, going for days without eating or drinking. This period of fasting enhances spiritual sensitivity and provides an opportunity for reflection and reconnection with God.
Personally, I fast based on my body's capacity; I do not go beyond what I can endure. However, during my fasting period, I ensure that I use the time wisely and make it worthwhile.
What Motivates Me to Fast
1 . Self-Discipline and Mental Clarity – Fasting helps train the mind, ensuring focus and the development of self-discipline.
2 . Spiritual Growth – Fasting provides an opportunity to seek God's face and engage in deep prayers, thereby strengthening the spirit.
3 . Health Benefits – Intermittent fasting supports detoxification, promotes weight loss, aids in cell repair, and enhances longevity.
After every fasting or intermittent fasting session, I feel free and relaxed. It also helps me maintain focus and develop self-discipline, especially in managing cravings. Additionally, it contributes to weight management, teaching me that depriving oneself of food for a certain period can have medical benefits and help in managing some health challenges.
My Advice to Those Who Want to Fast
If you are considering fasting, first study yourself and determine how long you can endure. Start with a duration that suits your strength. Ensure that you remain focused and avoid all forms of distractions during your fasting period. Most importantly, understand your purpose for fasting and remain committed to it.
