Homesteading is a very enjoyable experience and it teaches you a lot about gardening and self-sufficiency. From the beginning and I wanted to try something easy and quick to grow to feel accomplished and learn more about gardening and I couldn't find a better option than mint.
I decided to start by growing mint in a few small pots, because mint is known for its quick and easy growth, its refreshing scent, and its many uses and I bought small seedlings from the market and planted them in good soil, with a little organic fertilizer to help it grow healthily so Mint likes partial sun or light shade so I placed it in a wel lit area but not in direct sunlight all the time.
The advantage of mint is that it's not fussy to care for. All it needed was regular watering, but without overwatering the soil, as its roots don't like too much water. I watered it every other day, or depending on the dryness of the soil, and within weeks, it began to spread and grow at an incredible rate! I also discovered that it's a very resilient plant even if you cut it back a lot, it grows back with vigor.
After a while, the mint was ready to use, and I started experimenting with it in a cup of tea. It truly had a refreshing and natural taste, much better than any dried mint available on the market. I also used it in other recipes, such as summer drinks and juices, and sometimes I even put it in water for a refreshing feeling.
Growing mint was a simple but very enjoyable experience and it has made me excited to try growing other plants soon and If you're just starting out in homesteading or want to try gardening for the first time as I recommend starting with mint as it grows quickly is easy to care for and has many useful everyday uses.
