My Journey with Homesteading - Water Source

Homesteading for me is not just farming and thats it its a lifestyle that depends on selfsufficiency and making the most of natural resources From the moment I started I knew that one of the most important things I should focus on is providing a sustainable water source because without enough water there is no farming or life at all.

At first I relied on regular water but over time I found that consumption was increasing and water was not always available in the same quantity and quality So I started thinking of solutions that would allow me to reduce my consumption and ensure that I always have water even during periods of drought or if any problem occurred.

The first step I read about was rainwater harvesting and this was a simple but very effective idea I installed a simple system that collects water from the roof and delivers it to a tank and then I use it to irrigate the plants Of course the matter needs filtration and cleaning every now and then but it provides a very good amount of water.

I also tried drip irrigation instead of random irrigation and it made a big difference in the amount of water I use The plants get exactly what they need and no water goes to waste especially for crops that need continuous irrigation such as eggplant and garlic.

As for the thing I intend to research more in the coming period it is reusing gray water meaning the water that comes out of washing or showering of course after purifying it and using it for irrigation I heard that it reduces water consumption significantly and this is what I need to be closer to selfsufficiency.

In general saving water in homesteading is not only for agriculture but it is an essential part of achieving sustainability and reducing dependence on external sources Every small step makes a difference and the important thing is that you find the solution that suits your needs and capabilities.
