Am a privileged farmer who can cultivate different crops in a single season and every year I just find a way to take good care of each farm though it is tough and could be very tiring but the harvest motivates me to go again next year and this year my yam was not left out either and as much as am giving attention to my rice farm right now I still great time to check on my yam farm and see how it is doing.
Cultivating yam for me isn't as stressful as other crops that will require different activities at different point in it cultivation but here I just come around to weed it once a while just to make sure there are no grasses or any form of bush around the farm so it wouldn't expose the yam tuber to pest that will destroy the tubers at any point in time .
I and my dad sometimes split up the work to just in case the work is getting stuffy so no farm of ours is left uncared for and this is the resent inspection I came to make on my farm and though the yam is doing well right now the yam branch would use some sticks right now for staking and some bush are already trying to take over edge of the farm which is not good at all which means that there Is a lot of work to be done and I have to divert my attention to this farm for now .
The river down stream is another thing that is giving me tough time on this part of the farm cause the farm is actually close to a river channel in fact the channel is just right behind the farm and we always hope that the amount of rainfall each year wouldn't increase the level of the river since that will be detrimental to the yam tuber .
Yam is one crop I can't really stop cultivating because it is like a cultural food for us the idoma tribe of benue state Nigeria and also the price it also goes for in the market is another thing too I will just keep on farming and enjoying it every year that's the plan for now .
Crops which don't need lots of maintenance.
.. my favorite 😉
