Cancer: The Silent Thief of Dreams and Lives

We've got a lot of deadly diseases around the world that almost on a daily basis claim lives around the world, and that's not to forget the devastating situation it puts those around the deceased in, from financial strain to emotional, and many people, to name but a few. Through the years I've watched and heard a lot of people die at the hands of one disease or another, and that has made me wish I could just develop a cure that would go on to eradicate such diseases and help people to enjoy a more wellness-driven lifestyle, and that's one of the reasons I'm writing this: assuming I've got the power to create a cure for one disease, I'll be creating one to cure a certain disease I'd talk about below.

You see, when I was much younger and knew maybe a little about the world, one of the most popular diseases we did hear about back then was HIV and AIDS, and these led to us having different bodies coming into our schools to create awareness about these diseases, how deadly they can be, and overall prevention measures to take so as to protect ourselves from these diseases. Even on the TV we did watch different advertisements about it, and these made many of us fear it.

And during those periods I can't help but find myself lost in thoughts of what if I can create a cure for this disease, and the recognition and prestige such would give me? It's more or less like having my name engraved in gold on world history alongside Nikola Tesla, Thomas Edison, the Wright brothers, and the like.

Although HIV and AIDS are still deadly to date, they aren't among the top five when it comes to deadly diseases that claim the most life years, and that's why they're not the diseases I wish I had the power to create a cure for today. The disease I wish I could create a cure for today for the sake of humanity is cancer, and that's because it's sitting comfortably on the top of the log as the deadliest disease that claims lives yearly. Even people around me and some I know in person have been victims, and it's quite disheartening to see how different lives, hopes, and aspirations are being cut short because of cancer, and that's why I really wish I could create a cure for it.

Earlier this month I attended a burial ceremony of a friend's mother. It's worth noting that cancer was what cut her life short and put the family in the state of mourning. A friend of my younger sister also was a victim of this disease, and I still can't forget how I hated cancer for what it did to that young lady. May her soul rest in peace as well. This was a fresh graduate who was ready to take life by storm only to be diagnosed with cancer of the breast, had a breast cut off after some years, and still gave up the ghost despite all she's been through and what the family has raised.

So that, coupled with what every other person or family around the globe is going through, is why I want cancer to be washed off the face of the earth, and I hope one day that'll be a reality.
