IMPORTANT THINGS IN LIFE

(edited)

There are things important in life and there are things that are not so important. Today I had a two hour discussion with my MD over the things that matter a lot in the life of an individual and an organization. Prior to the meeting I was really bitter about the level of work I am doing and the amount of pay I was receiving. Although I am earning double what I earned when I started working, I was feeling used because I felt over worked and under paid. My MD finally agreed to do something about it, but not after a long discussion on the things that really mattered in life. He told me how he worked in a company for 12 years and a lot of the time he would work for months without pay and when he eventually got paid, he would be paid for only one month.

He told me the story to help me see that life sometimes can be cruel, and we can not afford to just throw in the towel because life is cruel. Of course I want to look good and be able to give my family a better life, but then again what is a better life without a good name and men to share it with. This has always been my thoughts about life and at one point I was just going after the money until I had the discussion and realized how much I had drifted from the part I had set for myself. I saw people living well and admired it but noticed it was expensive and they started striving hard for a good life.

But like a lot of the wealthy men around me say, they weren’t where they are just because they liked or wished for it, they are where they are because they focused on the most important things and that was creating value. We like the money and the things we can do with it, but have we thought about what we can do with value? According to my boss, most of the big jobs and clients our company gets today are recommendations from his former boss whom he worked for for years. Some would say his boss was wicked at one point, but the truth is that it was just life dealing with him while he chose to become a person of value. The money would finish and when it does, value would bring more and yes we would all die and leave it all, but the name our value has created would be a foundation for the next generation.

Wow, a beautiful piece I must admit.

It's good to see that you had such a great and eye-opening conversation with your MD.

I did learnt from it too.

Thanks for sharing.

Life can sometimes be really cruel and not go as planned.

Very true, our legacy and impact are what truly matters here on earth. Others can't stand the test of time.

A thoughtful lesson.
There are things more valuable than money and as a human we should learn to always set our priorities straight to avoid focusing on things with less importance.

We have to make the best of life even if things seem not to go as planned.
