The Aftermath Of Procrastination

People in life do not regret what they did, but what they did not.”

Procrastination is delaying an action for later.

We all either have a regret for procrastinating or a reason to be grateful we did, and this must have changed our attitude toward delaying a task for a later time. I procrastinate, but I get my task done before the deadline. But there was a time I regret not visiting a relative because I kept postponing until it was too late.

A relative who consistently checked up on us when we were young felt sick at one point. She was the only one I remember that never gave up on us when the other relatives cared less, she fetch vegetables and bought a few things every weekend to come give to us until she fell sick with a certain disease. Where she lived was a 30 minutes drive from where we stayed but I kept postponing my visit hoping to have a better time, unfortunately there was no better time. The psychology of procrastination is always believing there's time, it paints before us why the present is inconvenient and allow us believe the latter time could be suitable, but sometimes, the latter time is a privilege we may not enough.

After a few years of procrastinating, the next news I heard about her was of her death. I felt pained for two reasons, I never checked up on her when she needed us the most and It was a thing I could have done but allowed myself to dwell in the shadows of procrastination. Even though we raised a certain amount of money for the family in support of the burial, personally I felt and still feel we betrayed her. This experience makes me rethink anytime I consider visiting someone the next day, because tomorrow is not promised. Why tomorrow when all we are sure of is today?. This experience helped me value every moment I have and how well to utilize it. Why visit them tomorrow, when I can today? , why do it later? If I can do it now?.

I can imagine how you felt back then and the guilt in you. I’m so sorry for your loss, and it is true about what you said “why do it later when you can do it now”

I'm so hearted about the story of procrastination that results in loosing a caring mother without seeing her even when your soul wanted to.

That's why I titled mine, "procrastination" a route for set-backs.

Personally I've never witnessed anything good after procrastinating, so I won't advice anymore to indulge in it but rather flew from it..
Good write up here, I so love ❤️ it.
