Would You Trust the Voice?

I have often heard about dark magic and supernatural powers, but honestly, I don’t believe in them 100%. Many things people attribute to dark powers can also have scientific explanations.

A good example is the story about a dwarf-like creature that carries a mat. According to the rumor, if someone manages to snatch the mat and the creature fails to retrieve it, that person will become very rich. Different people tell different versions of the story. Some even claim they have seen the creature with their own eyes. To me, it remains hearsay. I have never seen such a creature myself, but I also won’t outright call those people liars.

I have also heard stories about people being cursed through gifts. Some say an evil wall clock can be given to someone, and once it is hung in the house, it somehow monitors the family. Others mention picture frames. One story I heard was about a woman who bought a beautiful painting and displayed it in her home. She remained barren for many years until she consulted spiritual elders, who allegedly told her the painting contained dark magic and instructed her to burn it.

According to the story, she became pregnant afterward. Again, I can’t verify whether the story is true, but it is one of many stories people tell that makes me wonder whether there are things beyond our understanding.

Now, regarding the sci-fi prompt: if I heard a voice coming from a painting, would I investigate it or stay away?

Honestly, I would struggle to make that decision. What if the voice belonged to a dark spirit waiting to be unleashed? If such a force existed, deception would probably be one of its greatest weapons, so I wouldn’t trust the voice easily. But then again… what if it was telling the truth?

This isn’t something I would try to handle alone. I would seek the wisdom of the elders, hoping they could offer a solution, or at least point me in the right direction. Simply staying away wouldn’t be an option because the painting is already in my house.

Whether I choose to help whatever is inside it or dispose of it, either choice requires action.
