Beat Procrastination by choosing Priorities over Distractions

Many of us are guilty of Procrastination, but some people are worse than others in terms of delaying things until later.

Many factors could lead to procrastination. One of those factors is Priorities

I delayed watching a movie to write this post, and it is because I weighed both options and realized that blogging is more important than the movie. The movie can be interesting, but it won't pay my bills. Now, the issue here is that after I am done writing this post, I might not go back to watching the movie. Other options may arise, such as feeling sleepy or having an urgent task to attend to, which will cause me to continue procrastinating watching the movie until I forget about it.

Another factor is Lack of Motivation

If the task is boring, you may lack the motivation to do it. I remember when I was still schooling. If the teacher gave us an assignment, I would keep postponing it until the next day in school, when I would collect one of my friends' own just to copy.

I introduced one of my coursemate to the Hive blockchain and after his introductory post, he stopped posting and when I ask him, he will tell me he will draft a post but he never did, the same guy would also lament about the economy of the country but instead of working, he prefer playing games on his phone, at one point he decided to write again but he never finish the post because he is always procrastinating it until I just let him be, probably blogging is not his way.

Sometimes it could be because we are waiting for the perfect time to do things. And a good example is Splinterlands tournament. I do not like playing immediately it starts because I want others to have entered their team, so I can know my chances of qualifying before playing.

Procrastination is not generally a bad thing, as people think; it all depends on what we are delaying and when it becomes a habit. Like the way I delayed watching a movie can't be termed a bad thing, because I just delayed having fun, and it has no negativity in my life.

It becomes a bad thing when we get addicted to it and start delaying things that will benefit us and miss opportunities that could change our lives.

I am not a candidate of procrastination because I prioritize my tasks over distractions and make sure to get them done!... It is normal to feel tired and not want to do anything, but I never procrastinate my work till the next day. All the delay ends that same day, even if it means doing it overnight, but I make sure to complete all tasks, and the only exception is days that I am sick and my body fails me.

I think you are not the type of person who have the habit of procrastination. You just set priority and do what is need to do. That's all.

This is all there is most persons just want to satisfy that immediate gratification... than pay the price for long term glory now, the human mind is conditioned for leisure. To beat procrastination doing it now is the best time

Procrastination kills opportunities, and this is why we must choose to do things at the right time

It's an interesting point of view that I sometimes consider when deciding what to do first and procrastinate on the other one. I routinely procrastinate going for a walk if I'm not done yet with all the work that needs to be done for the day. Going out for a walk late at night also has its advantages, I've noticed recently :)

Priorities matters

I have subscribed my DSTV and I don't miss it though, sometimes I work so hard in the day, and don't even my TV isn't on. Movies won't pay the bills, as you've said

I haven’t even put on my tv for weeks now, mobile took over and aside that, not much Time left for movies after working and watching reels.

There are levels of procrastination and it becomes a bad thing when we leave the most important things for what's unnecessary. Like you have said, it's not completely a bad thing if it's about postponing things that are less important.

Yea, that is it. Priorities over distractions.

Omoh ehnnn before going further I would like to say that this your picture is one in a million, your friend is like a proverb which says people don't know what they have until they lose it. Nice write-up

When it comes to procrastination we are all guilty, it only becomes a problem when you over do it or when you make it a habit.

yea right.

I used to procrastinate a lot but adulthood taught me that you have to do what you have to do now
Even though you are not motivated, you just have to keep going.

adulthood comes with many bills, and those bills and hunger will motivate us.

I like this idea of strategic procrastination, now that you mention, it makes a lot of sense dividing procrastination into priorities and lack of motivation is smart because they are completely different problems that need different solutions, most people lump everything together and wonder why nothing works, sometimes waiting can be a strategy rather than simply avoiding things, I sometimes do something similar with my work and never realized it had a name. Everyone thinks procrastination is this abstract bad thing but sometimes it's just being smart with your time instead of using it as it is. That thing about completing tasks on the same day, even if it means working all night resonates with me a bit too because when I leave things for the next day, it's much easier to keep putting them off. I think this approach could really help people who struggle with chronic problems completing their tasks.

Love this! We all procrastinate, but it all depends on what we are delaying for other things....

Movies won't pay the bills, procrastination is the thief of time

Nice post.

Procrastination is a deadly habit.
You are right about the fact that procrastination is not generally a bad thing, it all depends on what we are delaying and when it becomes a habit.

When we procrastinate important activities for leisure and unnecessary things that's when it becomes really deadly.

All what you mentioned deal with time the absence of time make it worthless. Time is what gives meaning to so many things that we do.

Absence of time? What happened to the 24 hours?
