President Curtis (2026) through the Eyes of Someone Who Didn't Watch Rick and Morty Plus Commentary (No Spoilers)

Who else been watching President Curtis? I'm more than half way through the episodes as I just finished episode 7 and I'm really loving it!

The Makeshift/Spin-off Feel

First of all, you should know the series is a spin-off from Rick and Morty. President Curtis was a character that appeared in Rick and Morty a number of times. He was one of their very good Characters but I didn't know how popular he was because I've not really been frequenting fandom groups and communities.

But it seems he made quite the impression and that's why the creators decided to go with giving him his own series.

I was watching some of the episodes with someone who hasn't watched Rick and Morty nor do they know anything about the character, but during the second episode I asked them what they thought about it and they said it feels like a character/series that was not made to stand on its own originally.

That it seems kinda like something that was makeshift then turned out to get more episodes than was originally thought of, and my jaw dropped!

How could they have caught that? I asked and they said it was just a feeling they got from watching it, just something about it. Really surprising, is it not?

I wonder what really gave it away. This person is a huge movie and animation fan, though, so they've definitely developed some sort of movie intelligence they can't give account of.

But then again I was wondering if it also shows some fault on the part of the makers. If someone can watch their spin-off and say something that amounts to "it feels like a spin-off" isn't that some failure on their part?

Because that means the person got the feeling that what they were watching was not really made intentionally or made to stand on it's own. And a feeling of standing on its gallantly is supposed to be the feeling every worthy show gives off, wouldn't you agree?

It takes someone who hasn't watched Rick and Morty to speak on this spin-off feeling, though, because I already knew it was a spin-off before watching it, so if I get any spin-off feeling from it the feeling cannot be trusted.

I'll like to ask other huge movie fans who haven't watched Rick and Morty what they think about this series, but I wonder what the possibility of finding them is.

I Love the Series, Though!

It turned out to be everything I would have loved it to be when I first heard they were going to make a series for this character.

The politics, US Presidents and US/World history nuggets in it are just so filling. Getting to see references to past presidents and issues that have real life historical background just feels great! Especially as I am someone who knows a lot about history and politics.

Seeing historical and political stuff showing up and remembering that I know of this, I understand this joke because I know the reference, and oh I read about this a long time ago what a pleasure to be reminded of it this way.

It is just so much fun for me. This is definitely one of my favourite shows currently, and I hope it stays successful enough to get more and more seasons.

The Supporting Characters

The supporting Characters are the bomb too! Banks, O'doyle, the White House staff members, the werewolf agent. All very interesting characters I didn't see coming when I was imagining the series after I first heard of it.

These guys carry the show as much as President Curtis himself and majority of the times they seem like the stars of the show. In fact it looks like it is supposed to be called President Curtis and His Gang because it seems they all contribute to the show in equal degrees.

An episode with just O'doyle and Banks without the president would feel great and you wouldn't miss the president. I kinda feel like a case can be made that these guys can carry the entire show without the president, just that serving the president is what seems to give them any relevance.

But then again, serving any high course at all can give them all the relevance they need. Crazy how it seems like a spin-off from this spin-off would not feel like a stretch at all, but would be great instead.

I wonder if the makers are seeing what I'm seeing and thinking about it. Maybe with time it can become something, especially if other fans are seeing it too and thinking in this direction like me.

But it is really my big takeaway, though, that I'll start discussing with any fan I meet, the supporting Characters are really great and carry the show more than or as much as the main character himself.
