Masters of the Universe (2026): Boyish Charm (No Spoilers)

I just finished watching Masters of the Universe (2026), and I was so taken by it's charm. That was what I loved about the movie the most. The entire movie looks like something we're mostly watching from the eyes of a boy child playing with action figures just the way we used to play with em when we were kids.

I for one played with action figures so much as a child and didn't stop till I was about 12 😂😂.

I used to gather them together, give them names, and because I was born with ultra creativity I would make entire stories with them. Stories with a beginning, middle, and an end.

There was usually no one to watch me do it, but the few times there were people there they had really great times watching the stories I'd make up in real time with these action figures.

Somehow this was all the movie reminded me of as I watched it. It was like a child gathered his action figures and made this story, because this story had so much of the characteristics of a story made by a child, just the way a Child sees the world.

For example, the names of the heroes: Ramman, Fisto, He-man, etc. Yes, it was said that the protagonist came up with those names when he was a child, but it seemed like the movie still meant to adopt those names as the official names and a child coming up with them was just a pacifying twist. Also it didn't end with the names:

The sword that gave power was called "Sword of Power", and the way to activate it was to say "By the power of Grayskull, I have the power!" Such simplistic childish sounding stuff.

Then the whole talk of the heroes being heroes, and the villains being villains, like the story was trying to tell us they know they're in a story. Plus the good silly/clumsy humour. All of these and some sort of tone in the movie just leaves you feeling like you're seeing it from a child's eyes.

But they did it so well I don't consider it a childish movie but more of a movie with a boyish charm. Lovely and well done!

I feel like if I watched this movie as a child I would have fallen in love with it so hard and been so inspired. Still a great watch, though, and there's nothing I'll love more than a sequel.

Before watching it I've heard about He-man and Skeletor in the past, and seen a lot of memes, but I never knew what movie or cartoon these characters were from. After watching this movie I went online to find out more and I saw they released an animated version back in the day called He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (1983) and they also have a live-action film starring Dolph Lundgren also called Masters of the Universe (1987). Then another, but a spin-off, called She-Ra: Princess of Power.
