[Movie] “The Pursuit of Happyness” Review

I watched The Pursuit of Happyness last week, and this movie gave me some kind of mixed feeling, I felt sad while watching it, but at the same time, it still somehow gave me some sense of hope seeing how the character was pushing through all the difficulties he encountered all through the movie.

The Pursuit of Happyness was released in 2006 and was directed by Gabriele Muccino. The movie stares Chris Gardner, played by Will Smith. He’s an unsuccessful salesman who is really struggling to make ends meet in the city. He has his young son, Christopher, played by Jaden Smith, who he needs to take care of while falling behind on his bills and struggling to maintain financial stability. The whole movie is essentially a pressure cooker for Chris as he faces one problem after another. All he was just trying to do was to build a better life for himself and his son alone.

The movie is emotionally heavy and it also showcases the strength of the human spirit through the character of Chris Gardner. He really gave a fantastic performance in this film, and he really makes you feel like you are along the ride through every twist and turn in his life. As Chris faces a lot of hardships, you will feel the pain, and desperation in his voice and expressions. It’s breaks my heart while watching. There are moments when you’ll see how much he is struggling, especially when he’s kind of trying to figure out how to explain his situation to his young son without making him feel the full weight of their problems.

Jaden Smith was pretty solid in his role as Christopher. His performance so well at his age in that movie. His interactions his father made their relationship feel more natural. You know, the way they talk makes the emotional aspect of the movie lands better. Personally, I think the relationship they have is one of the things that makes the story so touching. Through the way they converse, you’ll get to know that Chris is not only fighting to survive alone he is also trying to make sure his son has a better future.

We also have Thandiwe Newton, who played Linda. She’s Chris wife in the movie . Although she did not really have much screen time like Will Smith. But somehow, she still made an impact in the scenes where she appeared. Her scenes shows how financial pressure can affect a relationship. Her character just helped to show how difficult things had become for the family before Chris situation even got worse.

One of the thing I love about this movie was how it showed the importance of perseverance and taking of opportunities seriously. Of course, Chris eventually gets an opportunity to work as an intern at a stock brokerage firm, but in that position, they’ll not be paid, but he still has to work very hard to be selected for a permanent job. You can Imagine how Chris is trying to survive with his son while working toward a job that might not even work out at the end. But he has to do the work like that.

Above all, The Pursuit of Happyness is an inspiring movie that reminds us that life can be difficult, but our present situation do not necessarily have to determine our future. The movie also shows that success is not always an easy journey, that sometimes, the opportunities that will change our life might come with uncertainty and us making some sacrifices

I will recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys inspirational and uplifting movies, especially those struggling with one thing or another .
